What You Will Do?
You will lead two or more engineering teams responsible for designing, building, and operating ECS services at global scale. Your teams will own the full software development lifecycle — from requirements and design through delivery, operations, and continuous improvement. You will partner directly with Principal Engineers, Product Managers, and senior AWS leaders to set a multi-year technical vision for ECS and translate that vision into quarterly and annual deliverables. You will recruit, develop, and retain engineering talent in Vancouver and collaborate across AWS globally to raise the engineering bar.
A day in the life
- Own delivery of ECS features and platform improvements that directly serve thousands of customers running production workloads on AWS.
- Define and execute a multi-year technical roadmap aligned to AWS ECS product strategy and customer needs.
- Build and scale an engineering organization in Seattle, WA, hiring and developing engineers and engineering managers.
- Partner with Product Management and Technical Program Management to translate customer requirements into engineering plans with clear milestones and measurable outcomes.
- Establish and maintain operational excellence standards: availability, latency, scalability, and security targets for ECS services.
- Drive cross-team architectural decisions and resolve technical ambiguity with data and engineering rigor.
- Represent the Seattle engineering organization in AWS-wide planning processes, including OP1/OP2 cycles and headcount planning.
- Hold teams accountable to high-quality engineering standards through design reviews, operational reviews, and post-incident analysis.
About the team
Seattle is a growing AWS engineering hub with deep access to top engineering talent from world-class universities and a diverse, global technology community. As a senior leader in Seattle, you will have the autonomy to shape the local engineering culture, establish operating rhythms, and partner with AWS teams globally to deliver ECS innovations that customers rely on every day.
