DESCRIPTION:
As a Senior Technical Writer at Thermo Fisher Scientific, you will lead complex documentation projects and develop clear, high-quality user guides and technical content for RUO and IVD/CE-IVD instruments, assays, reagents, and software systems. Your work will translate complex sequencing technologies and scientific information into accurate, user-friendly content that makes our products easier to understand and use.
You will collaborate closely with scientists, engineers, quality, regulatory, product managers, and other subject matter experts to develop documentation for internal and external stakeholders. This role combines technical expertise, scientific understanding, and strong communication skills to improve product usability and the overall customer experience.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Advanced degree plus 6 years of experience, or Bachelor's degree plus 8 years of experience in technical writing, communications, life sciences or a related field
- Significant technical writing experience in a scientific, life sciences, or regulated environment, with demonstrated ability to lead complex documentation projects and workstreams.
- Proven experience developing high-quality documentation for complex scientific products, including instruments, assays, reagents, software, and associated workflows, across formats such as user guides, technical manuals, SOPs, and internal process documentation.
- Experience developing documentation in regulated environments, including RUO and IVD/CE-IVD products, with an understanding of quality and regulatory requirements and documentation supporting submissions, audits, and inspections.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills with demonstrated ability to collect, analyze, synthesize, and clearly communicate complex technical and scientific information with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Advanced knowledge of structured and topic-based authoring, including DITA, XML, HTML, and content management systems.
- Proficiency with technical documentation tools such as Oxygen XML Author or XMetaL Author and Tridion Docs Publication Manager; experience with graphics tools such as SnagIt or Inkscape preferred.
- Proven ability to lead documentation activities for product development and commercialization while collaborating with cross-functional partners including R&D, bioinformatics, software, Quality,
- Regulatory Affairs, Manufacturing, Product Management, Legal, translation, graphics, and document control.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple documentation projects, priorities, dependencies, schedules, and deliverables.
- Ability to advocate for clarity, consistency, usability, and effective documentation practices in cross-functional product and program discussions.
- Demonstrated ability to define and implement documentation strategies, standards, processes, and best practices across the organization, including developing training and guidance that enables cross-functional teams to adopt and consistently apply new ways of working.
- Strong interpersonal and critical-thinking skills with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Self-directed and adaptable, with demonstrated ability to learn new technologies, tools, and processes quickly and stay current with life sciences industry standards, regulatory expectations, and documentation best practices.
