As a Director of Risk Management for Ecosystem Risk & Integrity at Capital One, this role leads a high-performing team of Risk Specialists to secure the global payment ecosystem against threats and abuse. You will act as a thought leader and trusted advisor to executives, translating risk data into strategic insights, overseeing participant lifecycle strategies, and driving operational compliance across various risk stripes—including building out the Participant Risk Rating system and assessing risk against operating regulations. Partnering across data science and operational teams, you will transform risk controls, enforce network standards, and protect Capital One’s brand and financial performance.
Responsibilities:
Ecosystem Risk & Integrity: Secure Capital One’s global payment ecosystem against threats and abuse by transforming risk controls and enforcing rules and standards.
Participant Risk Rating Strategy: Build a multifaceted risk rating methodology for network participants and their adherence to Op Regs, legal, and regulatory standards. Combine various risk verticals (financial, operational, AML, etc.) into a holistic rating system; maintain and dynamically update ratings and integrate into GPN systems and processes.
Intelligent Brand Protection: Lead the charge in neutralizing deceptive activities by deploying cutting-edge risk detection technologies and AI-augmented monitoring, acting as a high-tech guardian and innovator. Set robust standards that preserve trust, integrity and drive secure growth.
Strategic Advisory & Executive Governance: Serve as a trusted advisor to GPN Executives, translating complex risk data into strategic insights that safeguard the Global Payment Network and empower confident decision-making.
Resilient Partner Lifecycles: integrate risk ratings into a holistic participant risk management strategy that ensures institutional fidelity and promotes trust amongst ecosystem participants
Cross-Functional & Analytical Innovation: Foster a collaborative movement combining data science and human ingenuity to solve complex network challenges and build a unified front in global ecosystem defense. Leverage creative applications of structured and non-structured data to slope and manage participant risk.
Team Leadership: Recruit, mentor, and empower a high-performing team of Risk Specialists to drive network resilience.
Framework Governance: Finalize and maintain category and sub-category framework.
Risk & Gap Assessments: Perform critical risk category assessments and extensive gap analyses to guide business decisions.
Process Excellence: Apply analytical skills to lead large-scale Risk Process Improvement, Process Design, and Governance.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree or military experience
At least 5+ years of experience in Project and/or Process Management
At least 5+ years experience in Operations Management
At least 2+ years experience in Project Management
At least 2+ years experience in People Management
Business Process Management certification Six Sigma Lean, Green Belt or Black Belt certification, Agile Coach certification, Compliance Certification (CRCM)
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree in Business Management, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics or Project Management
At least 5+ years of experience as a Project and/or Process Manager within the financial services industry
At least 10+ years of overall experience as Project and/or Process Manager

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
Chicago, IL: $187,300 - $213,700 for Director, Risk Management
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
