The Team:

Visa Consulting & Analytics (VCA) drives tangible, impactful and financial results for Visa's clients, including card issuers, acquirers, and merchants.  Drawing on our expertise in strategy consulting, payments, data analytics, brand management, marketing, operational and macroeconomics, VCA solves the most strategic problems for our clients. 

The VCA Australia, NZ and Pacific Islands team sits within the VCA Asia Pacific consulting practice, applying deep expertise in the payments industry to assist clients with their key priorities, drive business growth and improve profitability. The VCA team provides a comprehensive range of advisory consulting services and advanced solutions that address unique challenges in areas such as marketing, strategic growth, customer experience, digital payments and risk.

VCA is involved in the most strategic issues facing our clients in the region. Based in Auckland, the Consultant will report to a Director in the Consulting Delivery team for Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Islands support projects across these markets.

Consultant Role:

We are currently looking for a Consultant to join our New Zealand Consulting Delivery team, delivering advisory engagements for Visa clients in the Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Islands region. This is an early-career consulting role, ideal for professionals with a few years of experience who want to build consulting capabilities and develop specialist expertise in the payments industry. You will start by contributing to client engagements and supporting senior team members, and gradually take on more responsibility, with clear pathways for advancement into senior consulting roles as you develop your skills and experience.

Visa's consulting engagements span a diverse range of topics, including payment strategy development, optimising portfolio profitability, customer value proposition, product and experience design and implementation. The Consultant will work collaboratively within a client-facing project team, contributing across disciplines such as research, analysis, workshop facilitation, developing compelling deliverables and supporting the execution of recommendations.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for a Consultant with at least 3 years of full-time work experience and an aspiration to grow their career, with technical consulting skills gained through management consulting, business advisory, or financial services. Experience in banking or payments is highly desirable.
The ideal candidate will be intellectually curious, data-driven, and comfortable navigating ambiguity. Experience with, and confidence using AI tools to explore new ways of working, validate outputs and accelerate knowledge and development is critical.

Please note: There will be a case study interview as part of the selection process to assess consulting skills, strategic thinking and the ability to produce client-ready deliverables.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research, drawing on Visa and partner resources and subject matter experts to identify global best practices and surface insights relevant to the client problem at hand.

  • Analyse and validate content from a range of sources such as client information, data, processes, policies, competitive and environmental information to support high-quality outputs and strategic decision making.

  • Identify solutions and recommendations that address client objectives and result in performance improvement.

  • Create compelling deliverables to illustrate findings, ideas, recommendations within consulting engagements and more broadly.

  • Develop project materials including workshop materials, interview guides, data requirements, concepts, frameworks.

  • Contribute to IP creation and standardised VCA offerings.

  • Continuously build knowledge, surface new insights, and contribute to thought leadership pieces.

Visa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in management consulting, banking, payments, or financial services.

  • Demonstrated consulting skills including problem-solving, structured thinking, and client engagement.

  • Experience with research and analysis, customer journeys, workshop facilitation, process improvement, solution evaluation, stakeholder communication, preparing deliverables.

  • Strong analytical skills including critical review of outputs to synthesise materials from a variety of sources to a high standard of accuracy.

  • Team-based, cross-functional collaboration skills including building relationships with SMEs, stakeholders and colleagues in different locations.

  • Strong undergraduate academic accomplishment.

  • Program/project management skills including the ability to contribute to multiple projects running in parallel.

  • Technical skills including GenAI tools, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
