About this role

Your Team 

The Aladdin Business Development team is responsible for driving new client relationships, developing innovative business models, and delivering technology and investment management solutions that leverage BlackRock’s intellectual capital and global expertise. The team partners with a wide range of institutional investors across Japan, including insurance companies, pension funds, banks, brokers, asset managers, and alternative asset investors. 

Working closely with experts across relationship management, implementation, analytics, client service, legal, and product teams, the group helps clients address complex investment, risk management, trading, operations, and technology challenges. Team members collaborate extensively with colleagues across the Americas, EMEA, and Asia Pacific to bring the full breadth of BlackRock’s capabilities to clients. 

 

Your role and impact 

We are seeking a Business Development Director to play a key role in the continued growth of the Aladdin business in Japan. This position offers the opportunity to work with some of the region’s largest and most sophisticated financial institutions, helping them transform their investment and operating models through Aladdin and eFront solutions. 

The successful candidate will lead strategic sales initiatives, develop senior-level client relationships, and coordinate cross-functional teams to deliver customized solutions that address clients’ unique business objectives. This role combines consultative selling, market expertise, commercial leadership, and collaboration across global stakeholders.

Your responsibilities

The scope of this role also includes the following responsibilities: 

  • Develop a deep understanding of prospective clients’ business models, strategic priorities, operating environments, and investment workflows to identify opportunities and deliver compelling Aladdin and eFront value propositions. 

  • Build executive-level relationships, lead consultative sales engagements, deliver presentations, and qualify opportunities throughout the sales lifecycle. 

  • Develop and maintain holistic account plans and take ownership for advancing strategic opportunities with targeted prospective clients. 

  • Engage with portfolio managers, traders, risk managers, operations professionals, technology specialists, and senior executives to understand requirements and drive successful outcomes. 

  • Coordinate cross-functional resources and subject matter experts to support client engagements, workshops, and solution development initiatives. 

  • Monitor market trends, competitive developments, and client needs to inform business strategy and strengthen market positioning. 

  • Partner with product, legal, and contract management teams to support solution development, negotiate commercial terms, and facilitate timely deal execution. 

Your Experience 

  • Demonstrated client-facing/sales expertise across investment management, capital markets, and alternative investments, including equities, fixed income, derivatives, and private markets. 

  • Proven ability to assess complex client requirements and develop solutions, supported by experience in consulting, advisory, asset management, investment banking, research, or related fields. 

  • Experience selling investment, analytics, risk management, or technology-based solutions to financial institutions is highly valued. 

  • Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly and effectively to a broad range of stakeholders. 

  • Strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes in a dynamic environment. 

  • Experience using Aladdin and/or eFront as an end user is advantageous. 

  • Business-level fluency in both Japanese and English, with the ability to collaborate effectively across global teams.
