You will own equipment throughout its lifecycle—from evaluation and purchasing through qualification, calibration, maintenance, and continuous improvement. A key part of the role is to drive laboratory automation across R&D, identifying and implementing opportunities to automate synthesis processes and repetitive laboratory tasks to improve efficiency, reproducibility, and quality.

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage the lifecycle of analytical instruments and process equipment, including qualification, calibration, maintenance, and documentation.

  • Take ownership of laboratory automation across R&D, with a focus on synthesis and repetitive laboratory workflows.

  • Identify, evaluate, and implement new equipment and automation technologies in collaboration with scientists, engineers, suppliers, and other stakeholders.

  • Develop and maintain qualification documentation, including User Requirement Specifications (URS), validation plans, protocols, reports, and SOPs.

  • Manage equipment-related deviations, changes, investigations, and CAPAs.

  • Troubleshoot equipment and instrument issues and drive improvements and corrective actions.

  • Collaborate across R&D, Process Development, QA/QC, Production, and external partners to improve laboratory efficiency, quality, and capabilities.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Process Engineering, Chemistry, Instrumentation Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience preferred with laboratory equipment, including qualification, validation, calibration, and/or maintenance.

  • Experience in a regulated laboratory, R&D, manufacturing, or similar quality-controlled environment.

  • Experience with laboratory automation, automated equipment, robotics, or process automation is highly desirable.

  • Good understanding of applicable ISO standards and quality systems.

  • Fluent in a Scandinavian language, with strong written and spoken English skills.

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and directly related experience may also be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills related to laboratory equipment and instrumentation.

  • Ability to identify automation opportunities and translate scientific needs into practical solutions.

  • Strong documentation, organization, and project management skills.

  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and drive activities from concept through implementation.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and cross-functional teams.

  • Passion for improving laboratory efficiency, automation, reliability, and quality.

Work Environment:

This role is primarily laboratory-based and may involve standing for extended periods, lifting and moving objects up to 20 kg, and working safely with chemicals and hazardous materials.

Why Join Us?

At Thermo Fisher Scientific, you’ll have the opportunity to combine hands-on technical expertise with R&D, engineering, quality, and automation. You will help shape how we automate our R&D laboratories—from synthesis to repetitive workflows—while ensuring our equipment and systems remain reliable, compliant, and fit for purpose.
