Job Description

At Thermo Fisher Scientific’s St. Louis site, we move with urgency because what we do matters. Every day, our teams are helping turn breakthrough science into biologic medicines for patients around the world—and behind every batch, every decision and every challenge we solve is a patient waiting for what we make. This is a fast-paced, high-energy environment where science, technology and talented people come together to do extraordinary work. Whether you’re in manufacturing, quality, engineering, the lab or a support function, you are part of the mission. Your expertise matters. Your ideas matter.
Your ability to move quickly, solve problems and deliver matters.

The Opportunity
Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Staff Business Manager to support our biologics drug substance business. In this highly visible role, you will help drive business growth, strengthen strategic client relationships, and contribute to the commercial and financial success of our Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) operations.

You will serve as a key partner to clients and internal stakeholders, bringing together commercial strategy, financial acumen, technical understanding, and relationship management to identify opportunities, solve business challenges, and deliver exceptional customer experiences.

How You’ll Make an Impact
As Senior Staff Business Manager, you will operate at the intersection of our customers, commercial organization, and site operations. Your ability to understand complex customer requirements, translate them into viable business opportunities, and build strong cross-functional partnerships will directly influence client satisfaction, revenue growth, and the long-term success of our biologics business.

What You’ll Do

  • Drive business growth: Identify and develop new business opportunities, build relationships with prospective and existing clients, and position our biologics drug substance capabilities and services to support customer needs.
  • Lead strategic client relationships: Serve as a key point of contact for clients, understand their business priorities, address concerns, and proactively identify opportunities to expand partnerships.
  • Shape business strategy: Partner with senior leaders to establish business objectives, financial targets, and strategies that support the continued growth of the biologics drug substance business.
  • Monitor the market: Maintain awareness of industry trends, the competitive landscape, emerging technologies, and evolving customer needs to identify opportunities for growth, expansion, and differentiation.
  • Lead commercial contracting: Guide contract discussions with clients and collaborate closely with Legal, Finance, and other stakeholders to develop agreements that balance customer needs, business objectives, capabilities, and risk.
  • Manage financial performance: Support revenue forecasting, budgeting, cost management, and financial performance. Identify opportunities to optimize costs and accelerate revenue growth.
  • Collaborate across functions: Work closely with Program Management, Manufacturing, MSAT, Finance, Supply Chain, and other functional partners to deliver coordinated solutions for customers.
  • Provide leadership: Foster a collaborative, high-performance environment and provide guidance and mentorship that supports professional growth, engagement, accountability, and business results.
  • Champion quality and safety: Follow applicable quality, cGMP, EHSS, and site requirements while actively contributing to continuous improvement, safety, and quality initiatives.
  • Model our values: Demonstrate a customer-focused mindset, personal accountability, intellectual curiosity, ethical decision-making, and a commitment to Practical Process Improvement (PPI).

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific, business, or related field required.
  • Advanced degree such as an MBA or PhD preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 12 years of demonstrated experience in business development, sales, account management, or related commercial roles within the biopharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience within the biologics drug substance CDMO environment strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated track record of identifying, developing, and successfully closing new business opportunities.
  • Strong understanding of biologics drug substance development and manufacturing processes, including cGMP requirements and relevant industry standards.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Exceptional communication, influencing, negotiation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, internal teams, and senior leadership.
Strong business and strategic acumen, including the ability to evaluate market trends and translate insights into actionable business strategies.
Financial acumen with experience analyzing financial information, developing budgets and forecasts, and monitoring key performance indicators.
Strong project and priority management skills with the ability to manage multiple complex initiatives simultaneously.
Demonstrated leadership capabilities and the ability to motivate, influence, and collaborate with diverse teams.
Proactive, self-motivated, and solutions-oriented approach with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
Customer-centric mindset and commitment to delivering an outstanding client experience.

Additional Requirements
Ability to travel minimum of 25%.
