Original job description

Content provided by the employer

Amazon Search helps hundreds of millions of customers find what they are looking for, and runs on one of the largest search systems on the Internet. Our team keeps that system healthy: we build the software and automation that improve availability and resilience, catch operational and security risks, and give service owners a clear view of their operational health. We drive an engineering and operational excellence program across Search to ensure high availability and resilience of our systems.

What you will work on:

Partner engagement: We work directly with other teams across Search to help improve their operational excellence posture, from onboarding and access workflows to modernizing aging systems.

Automating away toil: We find repetitive operational work, such as risk tracking, remediation of aging infrastructure, and SLA reporting, and replace it with automation and self-service tools, leveraging GenAI where appropriate.

Tooling: Develop and deploy tooling to advance operational excellence across Search.

Operational excellence: We review operational metrics, investigate SLO breaches, drive fixes for cross-service issues, and own post-incident analysis so the same problems do not come back.

On-call: The team shares a daytime on-call rotation, with handoffs between engineers in Japan and the US. When a large production event happens, on-call leads the response and drives quick mitigation.

Basic Qualifications

- Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting infrastructure
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust
- Experience with Linux/Unix
- Knowledge of computer science fundamentals such as object-oriented design, operating systems, algorithms, data structures, and complexity analysis

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes
- Experience leveraging and deploying GenAI based solutions for tooling and incident management
