Job Description
Visa is seeking an experienced and proactive lawyer to serve as a Product and Commercial Counsel. The role will report to a Senior Managing Counsel on the Global Core Product, IP & Services Legal Team at Visa.
This role involves advising Visa’s dispute resolution Team and supporting other core Visa products and services, while working closely with other experienced Visa lawyers and compliance professionals, and regularly engaging directly with business clients.
Applicants must be skilled at managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced and challenging, but highly rewarding, environment; have good judgment and strong analytical, client counseling, and negotiation skills; be self-motivated; and, most importantly, be an optimistic, curious, and collaborative team player.
Visa is Looking for Someone Who Will
- Work closely with business and technology teams to understand and achieve key business objectives and help them develop compelling product and service offerings.
- Provide sophisticated and creative counseling to business counterparts with a special focus on risk and compliance.
- Act as lead counsel while coordinating with subject matter expert stakeholders and regional legal teams globally.
- Draft, negotiate, and drive to completion complex commercial agreements that achieve business objectives, and continue to support those business relationships after contract execution.
- Manage client relationships and provide day-to-day legal support and counseling to the relevant internal clients, covering all aspects of the services, including product development, external facing communications, periodic global compliance checks, policy development and management, escalation management, negotiation and interpretation of agreements, and addressing other questions and matters.
- Lead legal review and approval of product-related marketing materials, public relations materials, presentations and other day-to-day work product and content created by the relevant product teams.
- Assist in and drive the creation and updates of guidelines, templates and process improvements to create greater efficiencies.
Visa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- 7 or more years of relevant work experience
Preferred Qualifications
- 9 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or 7 or more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 or more years of experience with a PhD
- 8+ years of relevant legal experience, including in-house, law firm, government, or regulatory experience.
- Experience with payments disputes or in the payments, financial services, technology, or fintech industries preferred but not required
- Demonstrated ability to understand underlying technical aspects and use cases of software based products and solutions
- Ability to provide clear, practical, business-oriented legal advice to product, technical, and commercial stakeholders
- Strong drafting, negotiation, communication, project management, and collaboration skills
- Litigators welcome to apply
- Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
- Admitted to bar in good standing or eligible for registered in house counsel in the state where this role is located.
