Original job description

Content provided by the employer

Amazon is seeking a motivated, data-driven Sr. Category Manager to support Americas data center expansion and infrastructure development within the Energy Infrastructure and Projects portfolio. In this role, you will own end-to-end sourcing strategies for natural gas procurement categories—collaborating with internal business partners, engineering teams, and suppliers to drive efficiencies, reduce risks, and optimize costs at scale.

You will develop mechanisms and metrics to ensure supplier accountability for performance and delivery, leveraging competitive bidding, strategic negotiations, and comprehensive analysis of data and market trends to deliver measurable results for your category.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute end-to-end category strategies for energy infrastructure and power generation procurement — spanning Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) services, long-lead equipment (prime and backup), and balance-of-plant scope supporting data center delivery.
- Lead complex, multi-stakeholder negotiations for long-term supply agreements, EPC contracts, long-lead equipment purchases, and O&M service arrangements with OEMs, turnkey providers, and EPC contractors.
- Build and steward strategic supplier relationships; design performance mechanisms, scorecards, and accountability frameworks that ensure delivery commitments are met and continuously improved.
- Conduct market intelligence and competitive benchmarking to identify cost-reduction levers, supply-chain risks, and emerging technologies (e.g., fuel cells, SMRs, STATCOM) within the energy and power generation portfolio.
- Drive large-scale procurement process improvements, establishing programmatic frameworks that enable repeatable execution at scale and deliver measurable cost, quality, and schedule outcomes.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, legal, finance, and operations to align procurement strategies with business objectives, capital plans, and customer delivery timelines.
- Manage competing priorities across a dynamic portfolio, consistently delivering on-time results within committed timeframes and budget parameters.

Required Qualifications
- Industry Experience — Background in Oil & Gas, Utility, or Energy sectors strongly preferred.
- Pipeline & EPC Procurement — Deep knowledge of pipeline infrastructure scoping, EPC commercial frameworks, contract structures, and negotiation of large-scale infrastructure agreements.
- Operations & Maintenance (O&M) — Familiarity with O&M contracting models, performance guarantees, and lifecycle cost management for power generation assets.
- Long-Lead Equipment Procurement — Proven experience sourcing and managing suppliers for capital-intensive equipment such as high-voltage transformers, circuit breakers, fuel cells, gas turbines, natural gas reciprocating engines/generators, and associated balance-of-plant systems.
- Supplier Management — Track record of managing complex supplier portfolios spanning OEMs, turnkey service providers, and refurbishers/resellers, with demonstrated ability to drive accountability and performance improvement.
