The Team: Morningstar DBRS’s Research group provides independent analysis on individual securities, funds, markets, and portfolios. The Research group also provides data on hundreds of thousands of investment offerings, including stocks, mutual funds, and similar vehicles, along with real-time global market data on millions of equities, indexes, futures, options, commodities, and precious metals, in addition to foreign exchange and Treasury markets. Morningstar DBRS is one of the largest independent sources of fund, equity, and credit data and research in the world, and our advocacy for investors’ interests is the foundation of our company.
The Role: Morningstar DBRS’s structured credit research and ratings subsidiary, a Nationally Recognized Statistical Ratings Organization (NRSRO), is seeking an experienced editor to proofread, fact check, and polish complex financial reports for our investor clients. Our goal is to help investors evaluate structured finance investments, including commercial and residential mortgage-backed securities, as well as asset-backed securities. With Morningstar DBRS, structured finance investors have access to high-quality ratings, investment research, surveillance services, data, and technology solutions. This position is based in our Mumbai, India, office.
Responsibilities:
Proofread and edit articles and monthly reports for accuracy, sentence structure, organization, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
Proofread, fact check, and edit presale reports for mortgage-backed and asset-backed securitizations.
Ensure all reports adhere to Morningstar DBRS style standards.
Work collaboratively to ensure high-quality, error-free content that achieves Morningstar DBRS’s mission to provide fundamental insight and analysis to help investors make decisions.
Assist in other duties as needed, including editing marketing and compliance materials and correspondence with clients.
Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or a related field.
A minimum of four years of experience as a writer or editor with a credit-ratings agency, general business and financial publication, or structured-finance industry publication.
Proven writing skills, including the ability to write a compelling lede, succinct conclusion, titles, headlines, and subheads.
Ability to significantly rewrite copy to ensure organization is logical and easy to follow.
Strong proofreading and editing skills as proven through the successful completion of Morningstar DBRS’s editing tests.
Ability to do basic math calculations, including calculating percentages.
Familiarity of Associated Press style and willingness to learn Morningstar DBRS style.
Ability to handle multiple editing jobs simultaneously and meet strict deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Familiarity with Excel and PowerPoint is a plus.
