About the role
Original posting provided by AstraZeneca
Director, EDO – Information Architecture, Commercial IT
Introduction to the role
At AstraZeneca, we are strengthening the information foundations that connect our Commercial data, digital products, analytics and AI.
As Director, EDO – Information Architecture, Commercial IT, you will shape how information is defined, connected and reused across our global Commercial organisation. You will translate complex business needs into practical models and standards that help our teams make better use of trusted information.
Based in Barcelona, you will work with colleagues across business, product, engineering, data and governance. Together, we will create consistent approaches that improve interoperability, reduce duplication and prepare our information landscape for analytics and responsible AI.
What you’ll do
In this role, you will:
- Shape information architecture for major Commercial capabilities and programmes, translating business priorities into clear models, standards and decisions.
- Develop conceptual, logical and semantic models across operational systems, master data and data products.
- Create and maintain ontologies, taxonomies and controlled vocabularies using our EIA Ontology Framework and Playbook.
- Support programmes including Customer 2030, Future CRM, One Data Foundation and Commercial AI, helping our teams reuse common concepts and create AI-ready information.
- Guide architecture decisions and assurance while embedding privacy, consent, classification, ethics and governance into designs.
- Coach architects, analysts, engineers and product teams in semantic modelling and ontology adoption.
- Help modernise relevant ER/Studio assets into governed Metaphactory ontologies and encourage reusable approaches across markets and programmes.
What you’ll bring
We are looking for practical experience in enterprise information or data architecture and a track record of turning strategy into implemented solutions.
You will bring experience in conceptual, logical and semantic modelling, including ontology or taxonomy design. You will also understand data governance topics such as privacy, consent, classification and data ethics.
Knowledge of data lifecycles and approaches such as FAIR, TRUST or Data Mesh will help you succeed. Just as importantly, you will be able to explain complex choices clearly and work collaboratively with business, product, engineering and governance colleagues.
Additional experience
We value different career paths and recognise that relevant experience can come from pharmaceuticals, life sciences, healthcare, consumer, technology or other data-rich sectors.
Experience with some of the following would be valuable, but we do not expect you to have worked with all of them: knowledge graphs, OWL, RDF, SKOS, SHACL, Metaphactory, Collibra, ER/Studio, cloud data platforms, master and reference data, CRM, HCP/HCO data, claims data, syndicated data and Agile delivery.
Experience supporting Marketing, Medical, Customer Engagement, Commercial Excellence or Market Access would also be useful.
What we offer
We want our people to have the support and flexibility they need to do their best work. We offer employee benefits that support wellbeing, development and life at work, with specific benefits based on local policies and eligibility.
For this role, we combine in-person collaboration with flexibility. You will work from the office an average of at least three days each week, balanced with individual and business needs.
Why AstraZeneca
We bring together expertise across science, technology, data and Commercial teams to improve how information is used across our organisation.
You will have opportunities to work with AI, machine learning, knowledge graphs and modern data platforms, contribute to global programmes and learn alongside specialists from different disciplines.
Your work will provide information foundations that make data easier to understand, connect and use across our global organisation.

We are committed to equal opportunity and an inclusive recruitment experience.
