Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Vice President (AVP) Software Engineering Lead to join the COMPASS transformation program. The successful candidate will lead the design, development, and modernization of business-critical applications supporting Shareholder Services operations. This role combines hands-on software engineering, solution architecture, system integration, cloud-native development, and AI-driven engineering practices to accelerate delivery and improve operational efficiency throughout the software development lifecycle. COMPASS is the strategic platform supporting transaction workflows, integrations, operational processing, and the migration of legacy PRKS and Cash Portal capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Software Engineering Leadership

  • Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-scale applications supporting COMPASS business capabilities.
  • Lead development activities across transaction processing, workflow orchestration, integrations, reporting, and operational services.
  • Drive software engineering best practices, code quality, DevOps, automated testing, and CI/CD adoption.
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across distributed global teams.

AI-Driven Engineering & Innovation

  • Apply Generative AI technologies to accelerate software development, testing, documentation, and production support activities.
  • Build AI-powered solutions to improve operational workflows, exception management, reconciliation processes, and business user experience.
  • Evaluate and implement AI services including Azure OpenAI, Copilot, LLMs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Intelligent Agents, and AI-assisted automation.
  • Drive adoption of AI coding assistants, automated test generation, AI-based defect analysis, and engineering productivity solutions.

Architecture & Integration

  • Design scalable and resilient cloud-native solutions.
  • Lead integration development with internal and external platforms using APIs, file-based interfaces, messaging, and event-driven architectures.
  • Partner with Architecture, Infrastructure, Security, and Business teams to define target-state solutions.
  • Ensure application designs meet security, audit, resilience, and performance requirements.

Cloud & Platform Modernization

  • Support enterprise migration initiatives and cloud transformation programs.
  • Develop and deploy applications on AWS and Azure platforms.
  • Drive modernization of legacy systems into cloud-native architectures.
  • Implement observability, monitoring, and performance optimization solutions.

Delivery & Stakeholder Management

  • Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Business SMEs, Operations teams, and executive stakeholders.
  • Support COMPASS release planning, BUAT, system integration testing, production readiness, and platform rollout activities.
  • Provide technical leadership for strategic initiatives and executive-level deliverables.

Required Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • 5+ years of enterprise software development experience.
  • Strong Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, REST API development.
  • Experience with Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL optimization, and data integration solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS and/or Azure cloud services.
  • CI/CD, GitHub, Jenkins, DevOps automation experience.
  • Strong system integration and distributed systems knowledge.
  • Experience building scalable enterprise applications.

AI / Machine Learning Skills

  • Experience using Generative AI tools in software development.
  • Understanding of LLMs, RAG frameworks, vector databases, prompt engineering, SDD and AI orchestration.
  • Experience with Github Copilot, Azure OpenAI, LangChain, Semantic Kernel, or equivalent technologies.
  • Ability to identify and deliver AI use cases that improve engineering productivity and operational efficiency.

Leadership Skills

  • Experience leading development teams and mentoring engineers.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work with global teams across APAC, EMEA, and North America.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Shareholder Services, Investment Management, Transfer Agency, or Financial Services experience.
  • Experience with workflow platforms, transaction processing systems, or investment operations.
  • Knowledge of AI governance, responsible AI, and model risk controls.
  • Experience implementing Agentic AI solutions and enterprise automation platforms.
