About the job 

As a Mass Spectrometry Senior Scientist within the Analytical Sciences team, you will act as a scientific leader and technical expert in mass spectrometry, providing highlevel analytical support to CMC development projects. 

Part of the Synthetic Platform within Global CMC Development, the Analytical Sciences group strives to be an industry leader in the development of transformative medicines. In this role, you will lead complex mass spectrometry studies, drive technical excellence, and contribute to the robustness, innovation, and regulatory compliance of analytical strategies. You will also play a key role in mentoring scientists and supporting the continuous evolution of mass spectrometry capabilities within the laboratory. 

This position is based onsite in Montpellier, France.

Main responsibilities: 

 

  • Lead complex mass spectrometry activities within CMC development projects by designing, developing, validating, and troubleshooting advanced HPLCHRMS and GCMS methods, and acting as a key scientific interface to resolve complex structural and analytical challenges. 

  • Serve as a recognized technical expert and referent in mass spectrometry, providing scientific guidance and technical review to scientists on challenging analytical topics.  

  • Define and implement projectlevel analytical strategies for nitrosamine and mutagenic impurities, in alignment with Sanofi CMC and Analytical Sciences guidelines.  

  • Potentially lead analytical activities within project teams.  

  • Ensure close interaction with chemistry teams to support ongoing synthetic activities, provide analytical input, and contribute to the understanding and follow-up of chemical development. 

  • Prepare, review, and scientifically endorse analytical documentation (protocols, reports, procedures), ensuring full data traceability and compliance with GMP requirements, including support for clinical and regulatory submissions.  

  • Mentor and scientifically coach others, contributing to skills development, best practices, and overall laboratory expertise.  

  • Present scientific results and technical positions within and across departments. 

  • Drive continuous improvement and modernization of mass spectrometry capabilities by monitoring scientific and technological advances, implementing innovative tools and AIsupported solutions, and providing advanced technical support for complex laboratory issues in close collaboration with laboratory leadership. 

  • Contribute to scientific publications and represent Sanofi at conferences or scientific meetings as a subjectmatter expert in mass spectrometry. 

 

 

About you  

 

Experience 

  • Proven expertise in highresolution mass spectrometry with significant experience in analytical method development and validation.  

  • Strong understanding of GMP and regulatory expectations related to analytical development. 

 

Soft and technical skills 

  • Proficiency with advanced mass spectrometry platforms (Orbitrap, QToF, Triple Quad) and data processing software (MassLynx, Xcalibur, Chromeleon).  

  • Strong analytical thinking and problemsolving capabilities applied to complex scientific challenges.  

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex scientific concepts.  

  • Collaborative mindset with demonstrated ability to mentor and influence others scientifically. 

 

 

Education: PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or related field with specialization in Mass spectrometry 

 

Languages: Fluent in French and English

The salary range for this position is :€48 000,00 - €64 000

Final compensation will be determined based on demonstrated experience, skills, location, and other relevant factors. Employees may be eligible to participate in Company employee benefit programs.
