Original job description

Content provided by the employer

A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That’s what makes us Roche.

Advances in AI, data, and computational sciences are transforming drug discovery and development. Roche’s Research and Early Development organisations at Genentech (gRED) and Pharma (pRED) have demonstrated how these technologies accelerate R&D, leveraging data and novel computational models to drive impact. Seamless data sharing and access to models across gRED and pRED are essential to maximising these opportunities. The new Computational Sciences Center of Excellence (CoE) is a strategic, unified group whose goal is to harness the transformative power of data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to assist our scientists in both pRED and gRED to deliver more innovative and transformative medicines for patients worldwide.

The Opportunity

AI Biology & Translation (AIBT) builds AI foundation models and agents for disease biology, target discovery, and translational research at Genentech. The AI for Clinical Translation group within AIBT is hiring a Scientist or Senior Scientist to build models that improve the design of our next trials. We connect molecular data to clinical outcomes in order to understand specific patient populations' treatment responses, identify biomarkers of disease progression, treatment, and resolution, as well as leverage our clinical data to inform target discovery and prioritization. You will build new models from scratch on multimodal omics datasets with accompanying clinical metadata, working across disease areas to apply them where they will have the largest impact. Your team will be computational and AI scientists as well as collaborators from research, translational, and clinical teams.

In this role, you will:

  • Build and Scale New AI Models: Develop innovative models to enhance insights from outcome data and design interpretable ML frameworks and scale them on massive datasets.
  • Connect Molecular and Clinical Data: Create models that link heterogeneous molecular and cellular data with clinical outcomes, specifically focusing on prognostic, predictive, and pharmacodynamic biomarkers.
  • Design models with the applications in mind: Work within a cross functional team to understand use cases, design models to fit those needs, and guide their application.
  • Master the Data: Organize and integrate messy, heterogeneous data from internal and public cohorts into model ready inputs.
  • Prepare for our next models: Identify necessary data collection requirements for upcoming trials to train and validate our next generation of models.
  • Deploy and educate: Share and deploy these models with other computational users and clinical stakeholders.
