Retail and Marcom Engineering, an IS&T team, builds and operates the systems and experiences that connect Apple's products with its customers. The team owns the technology behind both Apple's online and physical stores and drives the interactive marketing experiences and tools that keep creative operations moving. Together, those functions deliver the technology behind every product story Apple tells and every purchase a customer makes.

Description

IS&T Retail Store Apps Engineering is responsible for the technology and IT systems used to enable Apple Retail Stores to service millions of customers enabling Apple Retail to become one of the best retailers in the world. In this position, you will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with a group of “A” player software engineers from related but different backgrounds to make Apple Retail truly innovative. To be successful in this role, the candidate must be hands-on, proactive, talented at problem solving, have the mindset to challenge the norm and have a strong desire to learn and work towards excellence.

Apple is looking for an individual that takes pride in crafting solutions to enhance product delivery by architecting and leading distributed compute platforms and application services. This engineer needs to work closely with cross-functional teams to identify potential solutions and go on to work with the engineering teams to properly test and deploy changes. Critical thinking, writing solid and clean code, planning, documenting, and communicating within the team and cross-functionally is critical to the success of the role.

Responsibilities

Passion for eliminating repetitive manual processes using automation
Strong attention to detail and excellent analytical capabilities
Deploying application releases and code from Development into Production
Shepherding applications through the software delivery life cycle
Develop and maintain a working knowledge of trends and standard methodologies within Apple
Setup and analyze application health metrics and provide solutions to ensure stability
Experience troubleshooting problems and working with a team to resolve large scale production issues

Minimum Qualifications

BA/BS degree in Computer Science and 3 years of relevant experience.
Proficiency in software development using Python, Rust, and/or Java programming languages.
Experience working with cloud compute environments like OpenStack, AliCloud, AWS, GCP or Azure.
Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC), configuration management, CI/CD, and automation.
Experience with troubleshooting, problem solving, and debugging.
Comfortable with on-call rotation.

Preferred Qualifications

Conversational and written English proficiency
Proficiency in implementing and correlating telemetry using monitoring and observability tools such as Splunk, Grafana and Prometheus
Building and operating container orchestrating systems (Docker, Kubernetes and micro-services)
Experience in Site Reliability Engineering / DevOps
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience in UNIX/Linux Operating Systems

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $150,400 and $225,300, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
