The Beats Accessories Product Design team is seeking a product design engineer to work on the next-generation of products. We work in a highly-collaborative, fast-paced environment with teams across Apple including Industrial Design, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, Reliability, Software, and Marketing to define product objectives, design solutions, and validate the performance of those designs through mass production, all while keeping customer experience at the forefront. Our contributions have broad impacts – from the overall system size and shape down to the smallest details.

Description

As a member of our Beats Accessories Product Design team, you would conceive, design, test, solve problems, and bring into production a diverse array of accessory products. We work closely with various multi-functional teams including Industrial Design, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, Reliability, Software, and Marketing. Expertly integrating advanced components into brand new products means every single day is different here! This role may require international travel (~10%).

Responsibilities

Design mechanical parts including plastic, metal, or softgoods parts
Collaborate with cross functional teams to understand and execute on critical integration and performance requirements
Create 2D technical drawings and review dimensional inspection reports
Perform engineering analysis (including basic mechanical finite element analysis) to ensure designs meet all requirements throughout the product lifecycle
Support factory builds and on-site development activities, including periodic international travel
Conduct failure analysis on failed units and determine corrective actions

Minimum Qualifications

2+ years experience in product design, or equivalent
BS Mechanical Engineering
Demonstrated ability in plastic and metal part design
3-D CAD skills
Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), and Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, and geometric tolerancing
Strong analytical/problem solving skills, experience selecting materials and manufacturing processes based on engineering requirements
Some experience with basic finite element analysis and general mechanical engineering analysis
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts clearly to multi-disciplinary teams
Collaborative, detail-oriented, and driven to deliver with a high standard of quality
Flexibility and comfort working in a quickly changing environment
Ability to travel internationally (10%+)

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with overseas manufacturers
Consumer electronics design experience
Fluent in Siemens NX
Hands-on prototyping experience (3D printing, CNC mills, lathes, or other fabrication methods)
Integration of wireless antenna (GSM, GPS, Wifi) into mechanical enclosures
Experience with component modules (Audio drivers, batteries, power supplies, camera modules, displays, inductive charging etc.)
MS Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $122,700 and $214,300, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
