Overview

The Global eCommerce and Web team isa global team at Microsoft responsible for sales across Modern Life (Windows, Microsoft 365, and Surface) and Gaming.We put the consumer at the center, helping them discover, learn, and buy through direct and partner channels in over 120 countries around the world.  

The Data Engineering & Governance team is an integral part of Global eCommerce and Web, providing the data necessary to run these businesses, used by both non-managers and executives alike.  

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer IIwith experience creating and working with big data systems. We operate at a scale that few others do, processing data daily through various systems. We use several different programming languages and work on several different platforms. Security and compliance are paramount in all that we do. 

We are looking for an engineer who has experience using Microsoft Fabric and Microsoft Azure, and who is familiar withtheSecurity Development Lifecycle (SDLC), security assessments, vulnerability management, and compliance withprivacy regulations. They will also be excited aboutlearningthe newesttechnologies and will think deeply about how to keep new and existing systemssecureandcompliant with ever-changing privacy regulations.    

In this role, you should be comfortable working individually on complex projects as well as within a team. You will help architect and implement solutions, while also guiding others in the implementation of solutions. You will also regularly interact with people across the company and outside the company in various roles, ensuring that solutions meet the needs of various stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Works with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers, technical leads) to determine user requirements for a set of features.  

  • Leverages feedback to incorporate insights into future designs or solution fixes. 

  • Creates and implements code that is extensible and maintainable for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable, and determining when the code is ready to be shared and delivered. 

  • Reviews the code of a product to ensure it meets the team's and Microsoft's quality standards, is reliable and accurate, and is appropriate for the scale of the product/solution area.  

  • Contributes to efforts to ensure the correct processes are followed to achieve a high degree of security, privacy, safety, and accessibility. 

  • Checks for visible evidence to demonstrate compliance for product areas, and holds an understanding of the implications of onboarding new technologies following expectations of compliance at Microsoft.  

  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) working on call to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions. 

  • Alerts stakeholders as to the status and gains approval to restore system/product/service for simple problems.  

  • Responds within Service Level Agreement (SLA) timeframe. Escalates issues to appropriate owners.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python 

    • OR equivalent experience.  

Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:  

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. 

 Preferred Qualifications:  

  • 1+ year of experience with Azure Service (Microsoft Entra ID authentication, App Services, Functions, Event Hubs, Stream Analytics), Azure DevOps. 

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python 

    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python 

    • OR equivalent experience.  

  • 3+ years of software design and development experience with middle tier or backend services.  

  • Experience deploying, monitoring, and operating services in the cloud.



Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $102,100 - $202,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $133,800 - $219,200 per year.
