About the role
Original posting provided by Microsoft
Microsoft's mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As Director, Puget Sound Real Estate & Facilities, you will lead integrated facilities management (IFM) operations across Microsoft's largest and most complex campus portfolio, spanning owned and leased buildings, garages, labs, and shared amenity spaces in Redmond and the greater Puget Sound region. You will own the day-to-day operational health of the portfolio - building services, maintenance and lifecycle replacement, engineering and critical environments, mail and logistics, and workplace readiness - delivered primarily through strategic third-party vendor partners. This is a people leadership role. You will lead a team of Microsoft employees and a large extended vendor organization, set clear performance standards, and build the bench strength and succession depth the portfolio requires. You will bring strong financial acumen to a portfolio with a significant operating budget and a capital project pipeline in the hundreds of millions of dollars, driving disciplined forecasting, savings delivery, and transparent cost accountability. Success in this role depends on collaboration: you will partner closely with peer leaders across portfolio strategy and planning, commute operations, dining and events, projects, security, sustainability, EHS, Finance, Procurement, and Microsoft Digital to translate Microsoft's real estate strategy into an employee experience that is safe, reliable, sustainable, and cost-effective.
Responsibilities
Lead end-to-end integrated facilities management (IFM) service delivery for the Puget Sound portfolio - maintenance and engineering, critical environments, building automation, janitorial, landscaping, mail and logistics, and workplace readiness - ensuring safe, reliable, and high-quality operations at scale.
Own financial performance for the portfolio's operating and capital budgets: build and support annual budgets, deliver accurate monthly and quarterly forecasts, manage variance and emergent spend, identify and deliver year-over-year savings targets, and surface unbudgeted cost exposures early with clear options and recommendations.
Partner with Procurement and Finance on purchase order governance, invoice and approval controls, shared-savings models, and contract structure - applying analytical rigor and data to every spend decision.
Direct the performance of strategic vendor partners as an owner: set scope and service levels, run KPI and scorecard governance, lead formal performance reviews, hold partners accountable to SLA and quality standards, and drive continuous improvement in cost, responsiveness, and occupant satisfaction.
Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of Microsoft employees - setting clear expectations, providing candid and supportive feedback, building career growth and succession depth, and modeling an inclusive culture where the team does its best work.
Collaborate as a peer leader across the Puget Sound leadership team and the broader Global Workplace Services organization - portfolio strategy and planning, commute operations, dining and events, projects and construction, workplace design, and regional operations - to align priorities, resolve tradeoffs, and drive one coordinated strategy.
Plan and execute lifecycle replacement (LCR), building refresh, reactivation, and decommission activity in partnership with project teams, sequencing work to minimize disruption to occupants and to protect business continuity across a live campus.
Represent Puget Sound IFM in quarterly business reviews and executive forums - preparing clear, data-grounded narratives on performance, risk, savings, and forward-looking initiatives and translating operational detail into leadership-ready decisions.
Build and sustain trusted relationships with business clients, campus stakeholders, and building leadership; proactively engage to solve problems and balance specific client needs against broader Microsoft interests.
Own operational readiness and resilience for the portfolio - emergency preparedness and mock drills, air quality and wildfire smoke response, severe weather, utility and power events - in partnership with Security, EHS, and Business Continuity.
Advance sustainability and compliance commitments across the portfolio, including energy and water performance, waste diversion, recycling and repurposing programs, indoor environmental quality, and regulatory obligations - ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements, Microsoft policies, and internal controls.
Champion technology, tooling, and process innovation in facilities operations (work order and service platforms, building orchestration and smart building capability, automation of manual processes), using data and reporting to drive decisions and measurable efficiency gains.
Drive change management and clear communication across a large stakeholder base, ensuring lessons learned and best practices are shared with peer regions and the global IFM community.
