Summary
The Apple Services Engineering team is one of the most exciting examples of Apple’s long-held passion for combining art and technology. These are the people who power the App Store, Apple TV, Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, Apple Books, & Fitness+. And they do it on a massive scale, meeting Apple’s high expectations with high performance to deliver a huge variety of entertainment in over 35 languages to more than 150 countries.
This role is for an Engineering Program Manager who will own the roadmap and drive execution for the Media Remote team — the foundational framework behind Now Playing, remote control, and cross-device media session coordination that Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, Apple TV, Fitness+, CarPlay, and HomePod all depend on. What you ship doesn’t surface as a single feature to one set of customers — it’s the connective tissue that keeps media playback, control, and session state consistent across every device and app in the Apple ecosystem.
Description
This role is for a hands-on EPM who can partner with engineering teams across client, server, and platform layers to define, schedule, and drive the Media Remote roadmap — while also acting as the central hub for the many client teams (Music, Podcasts, TV, Fitness+, and others) whose experiences depend on it. You’ll operate in a fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent initiatives and shifting priorities, where deep technical fluency across the OS stack is as important as program management fundamentals. You have:
*Strong program management fundamentals with a track record of shipping foundational, cross-platform infrastructure at scale
*Comfort owning a shared framework where “customers” are other engineering teams, not just end users
*Personal accountability and stake in the reliability and performance of the systems you drive
*Ability to bring clarity to complexity and build strong cross-functional relationships across client and platform teams
*Deep technical judgment across iOS, macOS, tvOS, watchOS, and CarPlay
*Passion for building the infrastructure that quietly makes millions of media experiences work
This role requires someone who communicates with clarity, navigates ambiguity with confidence, and is committed to continuous improvement — for yourself and the teams you support.
Responsibilities
Own the roadmap – Lead yearly and quarterly roadmap planning for the Media Remote team, defining scope and priorities that serve every client team building on top of it
Be the connective tissue – Act as the central hub across Music, Podcasts, TV, Fitness+, and other client teams, coordinating dependencies and aligning priorities across client, server, and platform engineering
Drive end-to-end delivery – Manage timelines, scope, and resourcing for concurrent initiatives spanning multiple platforms (iOS, macOS, tvOS, watchOS, CarPlay)
Think in systems, execute in detail – Dive into architectural and design discussions on how Now Playing, remote control, and session coordination work across the full stack, while keeping day to-day execution on track
Define the work – Craft business, functional, and operational requirements for the features you drive, often writing them yourself to ensure clarity and alignment across dependent teams
Champion process improvement – Identify and drive operational improvements that make the Media Remote team and its partner teams more effective with each release
Communicate with impact – Keep stakeholders across engineering and partner client teams informed with clear program updates, proactive risk identification, and mitigation strategies
Minimum Qualifications
6+ years of technical program management experience delivering software products from inception to launch
Proven track record managing complex, cross-functional projects across the full software development lifecycle
Strong technical acumen with the ability to engage deeply in architectural and design discussions, including how operating system layers and full-stack platforms fit together
Experience working with distributed teams across multiple time zones
BA/BS in a technical field or equivalent industry experience
Preferred Qualifications
Experience managing a shared platform or framework with multiple internal dependent teams, rather than a single customer-facing product
Exceptional strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to structure ambiguous, cross-platform challenges into actionable plans
Outstanding written and verbal communication that resonates with audiences from engineers to executives
Experience leading complex, cross-platform integrations across iOS, macOS, tvOS, watchOS, or CarPlay
Superior organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to juggle competing priorities across multiple client teams
Natural relationship builder who influences without authority and earns trust across all levels
Self-motivated, proactive, and deeply accountable — you take ownership and follow through
Strong facilitation skills for requirements gathering, design reviews, stakeholder alignment, and executive reporting
