Overview

Microsoft Digital (MSD) builds and manages the critical products and services that Microsoft runs on. We boldly pursue big ideas that power transformational advances at Microsoft and for our customers, while helping Microsoft teams work smarter, faster, and more securely every day. Microsoft Digital employees have deep technical and business expertise, customer insights, and a clear point of view that comes from first-hand, large-scale experience with Microsoft and industry solutions. We are engineers, technology leaders and experts, digital transformation change agents, and customer advocates.

We have exciting opportunities for you to innovate, influence, transform, inspire, and grow within our organization and we encourage you to apply to learn more!

Do you want to lead the team building the intelligent manageability and automation foundation for one of the world’s largest enterprise networks?

We are hiring a Principal Software Group Engineering Manager to serve as the Group Engineering Manager for Network Manageability and Tooling. This leader will manage engineering teams responsible for the platforms, tools, and shared capabilities used to design, manage, observe, automate, and operate Microsoft’s global enterprise network.

An important part of this role is shaping and delivering a portfolio of platform capabilities that supports our Network Graph and Network IQ architecture and enables the next generation of AI-powered network engineering and operations. Depending on organizational priorities, the role will own selected platform components and partner closely with adjacent engineering, data, architecture, and service teams on others. Together, these capabilities will help create a connected understanding of network topology, configuration, state, health, risk, and operational context, enabling engineers and AI agents to design, deploy, troubleshoot, and remediate the network more intelligently.

This role is accountable for both people leadership and technical strategy. You will lead, coach, and develop engineering managers, technical leads, and engineers while setting a cohesive direction across network manageability, tooling, observability, platform services, workflow automation, and AI-assisted network operations. You will partner across engineering, product management, architecture, security, and network service teams to translate complex operational needs into shared capabilities that are secure, reliable, extensible, and reusable across the organization.

As an M2 leader, you will build a high-performing and inclusive organization, develop technical and people leaders, establish clear ownership and accountability, and balance near-term delivery and service health with the long-term transformation of how Microsoft’s network is engineered and operated.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.
