Job Description

At LinkedIn, our approach to flexible work is centered on trust and optimized for culture, connection, clarity, and the evolving needs of our business. The work location of this role is hybrid, meaning it will be performed both from home and from a LinkedIn office on select days, as determined by the business needs of the team.

This role will be hybrid in LinkedIn’s Mountain View campus.

About the team

LinkedIn's members entrust us with their information every day and we take their security seriously. Our core value of putting our members first powers all the decisions we make, including how we manage and protect the data of our members and customers. Information Security at LinkedIn is dedicated to protecting and securing business-critical member data and company assets. Our core mission is to empower LinkedIn to create a secure and thriving platform for every member of the global workforce.

The Enterprise & Identity Security team strives to proactively safeguard our corporate identity and infrastructure against external and internal threats and bad actors. You will strive to proactively safeguard our corporate infrastructure and digital assets by identifying, assessing, and mitigating security risks across cloud/SaaS environments, identity systems, endpoints, and essential business workflows. You will operate at the intersection of cloud infrastructure, identity management, software development, and mission-critical security workflows.

The successful applicant has a track record of managing engineers and ops staff tasked with high-availability, essential systems. You can dive into software development and system design as required, providing technical staff with the necessary autonomy and vision to excel. You will define technical roadmaps, mentor talent, establish robust architectural foundations, and resolve complex, undefined 0-1 challenges.

This leader will shape an engineering culture that prioritizes proactive and preventative controls over purely reactive response. Your focus will be in investing in durable controls, automation, prevention and detection coverage, and early risk reduction; that way the team can reduce costly incidents, minimize operational disruption, and focus its time on the highest-impact security risks.

You will be the primary technical authority bridging business strategy and IT execution, establishing formal Build vs. Buy decision frameworks, driving operational enablement, and leading complex enterprise engineering & identity initiatives. You will serve as a trusted technical advisor to executive leadership while partnering closely with engineering, infrastructure, security, and business applications teams to architect scalable and secure systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead a high-performing Identity Engineering & Enterprise Security team, going deep enough technically to set direction while empowering the team to own delivery

  • Operate identity infrastructure as a mission-critical platform, with clear reliability goals, safe rollouts, strong observability, healthy on-call, and rigorous incident learning

  • Manage, coach, and develop a team of security professionals, software engineers, and ops ensuring the team has clear priorities, measurable goals, effective operating rhythms, and opportunities for career growth

  • Lead the identity stack modernization and transformation effort across LinkedIn from on-prem Active Directory to Cloud with high resilience and fault tolerance

  • Measure success by safer, faster, and more accountable access: reduced unnecessary privilege, stronger governance, broader coverage, clearer auditability, and less friction for legitimate work

  • Build and mature proactive and preventative security controls across corporate systems, cloud environments, identity platforms, endpoints, SaaS applications, and security operations workflow

  • Drive cross-functional security initiatives across Engineering, IT, Compliance, Legal, Risk, and business teams, aligning security priorities with company objectives, risk tolerance, and operational needs

  • Establish and report on meaningful security engineering and operations metrics, including program health, control effectiveness, availability performance, remediation progress, and risk reduction outcomes

  • Evaluate and improve security tooling, processes, and controls to reduce systemic risk, increase operational efficiency, and ensure the team is focused on the highest-value security work.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • BS (or higher, e.g., MS, or PhD) in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Security, or related technical field, or equivalent technical experience.

  • 1+ year(s) of management experience or 1+ year(s) of staff level engineering experience with management training

  • 7+ years of experience in software development, enterprise security, and identity management

  • Experience defining strategic roadmaps, managing deliverables, and driving operational excellence for complex initiatives involving multiple stakeholders

  • Experience conducting code and architecture reviews, pressure-test designs, and guide tradeoffs across correctness, performance, scale, and operability

  • Experience in cloud infrastructure, IAM, authentication, authorization, workload identity, privileged access, and policy enforcement

  • Experience owning security critical production systems where reliability, least privilege, auditability, and operational rigor are essential

Preferred Qualifications

  • Track record turning complex infrastructure problems into adopted platforms across Engineering, Security, IT, and internal teams

  • High bar for engineering quality, operational discipline, and long-term ownership

  • Knowledge of Azure, AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD security, endpoint security, identity and access management, vulnerability management, observability, logging pipelines, and modern security engineering practices

  • Ability to communicate security risk, tradeoffs, and recommendations clearly to technical, non-technical, and senior leadership audiences

  • Experience improving enterprise security programs across SaaS applications, identity providers, endpoint controls, corporate infrastructure, and employee security workflows

Suggest Skills:

  • Technical Leadership

  • Enterprise Security

  • Identity Management

  • Software Engineering
