Key job responsibilities
You manage vendor relationships using defined sourcing strategies and cadences such as quarterly business reviews, across multiple concurrent vendor relationships and sourcing initiatives. You execute vendor evaluation programs and lead RFP processes where the evaluation criteria are defined, you are involved in all aspects of vendor analysis, rate negotiations, and stakeholder presentations.
You are proficient in one or more transportation or logistics service categories. You understand vendor operational models, cost drivers, and capacity constraints. You can analyze vendor performance data to identify optimization opportunities and make recommendations for vendor diversification or consolidation strategies. You develop contingency plans for capacity constraints during peak seasons or market disruptions.
You negotiate standard contract terms with vendors including rates, surcharges including but not limited to accessorials, service commitments, and payment terms, but you need explicit approvals from senior team members for non-standard contract structures or significant financial commitments. You develop negotiation scenarios to establish negotiation limits and walk-away positions. You can handle communications up to Directors and deliver measurable impact through cost savings.
You identify and implement best practices from other procurement teams — such as improved contract templates, vendor scorecard methodologies, or dispute resolution processes - and share them within your team.
A day in the life
This role will work with large data sets, and supplier contractual terms with varying degrees of complexity. This role will work closely with internal stakeholder teams, across finance, controllership, planning and transportation execution and will also work with external stakeholders in the management of assigned accounts.
