Overview

Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud.  Within CO&I, the Engineering Procurement & Construction (EPC) organization is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft’s cloud business. The MS portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. We are looking for a passionate, high-energy individual to help build the cloud datacenters that power the world’s largest online services. 

The CO+I Commissioning team is responsible for managing the end-to-end delivery of new data center capacity for CO+I. Through development of leading program management and construction processes, this team is chartered with managing workflow across vertically and horizontally aligned project managers and virtual teams to successfully deliver multi-million-dollar, multi-year data center construction programs.

As a Site Commissioning Manager – San Jose, CA you will work with data center architects, engineers, construction managers, network engineers, data center operations teams and finance teams to streamline and improve data center capacity delivery. You will execute against scope, schedule, and budget to deliver the latest generation of data center technology to Microsoft’s Online Services. You shall be responsible for ensuring the project is commissioned in accordance with Microsoft's standards and directly manage the process for projects in the San Jose, CA metro and support other Commissioning Projects in other regions.

Must be capable of performing work in the field on a construction project.

Responsibilities
  • Business Processes:
    1. Direct reporting to the CO+I Sub-Region Commissioning Lead.
    2. Primary responsibility for assigned metro commissioning projects with secondary responsibility for other CO+I commissioning projects for the region.  
    3. Create and/or maintain best practices to identify and incorporate quality and cost-effective solutions.  
    4. Manage the contracted Commissioning Agent assigned to Data Center construction projects in the assigned metro.  
    5. Development of Commissioning Procedures and Standards.  
    6. Construction site inspections to review Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC) and commissioning process.  
    7. Drive the project Commissioning process including scope and schedule.  
  • Communications:
    1. Regularly reviews Construction Progress, QA/QC, Commissioning progress, issues, and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) metrics to report to management.  
    2. Coordinate meetings and activities of vendor project managers including integration of lessons learned.  
    3. Manage client representatives and partners to define and align on scope, schedule, and budget.  
    4. Attend scheduled owner/architect/contractor (OAC) and other project meetings, and report as necessary.
    5. Report Project Progress on scope, schedule, and budget weekly or as required.
  •  Accountability:
    1. Responsible for developing, managing, and reporting on scope, schedule of the Commissioning Process for CO+I Projects.  
    2. Manage the Commissioning process for assigned metro projects.  
    3. Reporting of the Commissioning process to management on a regular basis.  
    4. Work independently in support of the CO+I Program.  
    5. Travel required.   
    6. Inspections and management of on-going testing processes in the field in a construction environment.
  • Strategy and Development:
    1. Manage data center commissioning project delivery strategy in alignment with the CO+I road map strategy.  
    2. Refine practices/policies and develop methods/techniques for driving solutions including development of commissioning procedures.  
    3. Provides input into a long-term delivery strategy and incorporates requirements into the project execution plans.  
  • Vendor Management and contract compliance:
    1. Provide Vendor oversight and performance management (Scorecard driven).  
    2. Preparation of Requests For Proposal, Project Expenditure Reports, and other project approval tools & templates.  
  • Other:
    1. Relocation required to defined location. Must reside within 50 miles of metro.

Reliability Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
