As a Technical Program Manager for Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), you will partner with cross-functional teams across Leo — including hardware, software, supply chain, manufacturing, facilities, and quality — to drive the development, deployment, and continuous improvement of MES capabilities that support satellite production.
This role includes direct responsibility for program management of MES system development, integration, and optimization across the production value stream. This is a technical role requiring experience with manufacturing systems, data analytics, and integrated hardware/software environments.
Candidate superpowers should include ownership, bias for action, insist on high standards, stakeholder management, influencing without authority, creating clarity out of ambiguity, and enabling productive collaboration.
Key job responsibilities
- Drive MES system enhancements, upgrades, and new feature deployments across manufacturing operations.
- Manage end-to-end program execution for MES initiatives, including requirements gathering, development coordination, UAT, training, and production release.
- Establish and maintain integration between MES and shop floor control systems (e.g., Ignition), ERP, and other manufacturing applications.
- Create and manage data models, KPIs, and reporting mechanisms to measure, monitor, and optimize MES-supported value streams.
- Drive daily execution working across manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and engineering teams to unblock dependencies and deliver on commitments.
- Translate production requirements into actionable MES system requirements and project plans.
- Identify dependencies between MES projects, synchronize milestones, and manage constraints across workstreams.
- Develop and maintain operational rhythms (WBRs, MBRs) for MES programs and communicate status, risks, and accomplishments to stakeholders.
- Support the creation, documentation, and adoption of standardized processes enabled by MES across manufacturing functions.
- Analyze production data from MES to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
- Drive process adherence and perform internal audits to assess system utilization and compliance with procedures.
- Partner with software and analytics teams to develop MES reporting tools, dashboards, and applications that support operational rhythms.
- Support implementation and training on new MES processes or system improvements identified through PDCA cycles.
- Identify potential risks in MES deployments and develop mitigation strategies and recovery plans.
- Provide feedback and escalate systemic concerns to technology teams regarding system performance, scalability, or cost-efficiency.
A day in the life
This role will be highly collaborative, requiring partnerships with cross-functional production stakeholders to drive positive results. You will work directly with production teams and value stream owners on MES system execution and process adherence.
A typical day involves coordinating with manufacturing engineers on system requirements, working with development teams on sprint deliverables, supporting UAT activities, and ensuring production teams have the MES capabilities they need to execute. You will balance project execution with hands-on troubleshooting and stakeholder communication.
This role will tackle challenging, novel situations every day and have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams at Amazon. You should be comfortable with ambiguity and relish the idea of solving problems that haven't been solved at scale before.
