Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the team behind one of the World’s largest Cloud Infrastructures, responsible for powering all Microsoft online Products and Services as well as powering Microsoft’s “Cloud First” mission. Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and delivering a trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide, and we are looking for a Senior Director, Datacenter End-to-End Build Delivery  to help achieve our mission. 
 
As the Senior Director, Datacenter End-to-End Build Delivery, you will take a lead role in a group that owns the entire lifecycle of Microsoft datacenter delivery. You will guide your team through the complete program management process for building and delivering world-class datacenters—starting with design and approval through to construction, fit-out, commissioning, and handoff to operations. In this highly visible and impactful role within Cloud Operations and Innovation, you will be responsible for managing schedules, ensuring cross-functional execution, and mitigating risks for capital build programs. This is an opportunity to play a critical role in getting datacenters built, online, and ready to deliver for customers who depend on Microsoft’s evolving cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Act as a subject matter expert, defining and prioritizing end-to-end program goals across multiple products or functional areas such as infrastructure, services, and systems, with a focus on risk management and data-driven delivery.  

  • Provide strategic guidance to cross-divisional teams and stakeholders, developing processes and operating models to ensure alignment in program delivery for complex capital programs.  

  • Oversee the tracking, coordination, and communication of project schedules, ensuring accountability for dependencies, timely execution, and issue mitigation across teams.  

  • Drive the integration of best practices and state-of-the-art tools for program management, including adopting automation and performance metrics to optimize build delivery.  

  • Guide and develop program management talent, ensuring effective people leadership and cross-functional project execution. 



Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field AND 8+ years of experience managing large-scale physical infrastructure or capital projects, including construction, commissioning, scheduling, or project execution within data centers, mission-critical facilities, industrial environments, or large-scale real estate development; OR equivalent experience. 

  • 3+ years people management experience.  

  • 6+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects. 

Other Requirements:  

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:  

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. 

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field AND 15+ years of experience managing large-scale physical infrastructure or capital projects, including construction, commissioning, scheduling, or project execution within data centers, mission-critical facilities, industrial environments, or large-scale real estate development; OR equivalent experience. 

  • 6+ years people management experience   

  • 10+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.  

  • Proven leadership of large physical infrastructure or capital projects involving buildings and facilities. 

  • Demonstrates deep subject matter expertise on key functional areas of engineering, procurement, construction, mechanical, electrical, networking, and building automation systems.  

  • Comfortable working at the Executive level within a highly matrixed organization.  

  • Experience driving execution with large complex infrastructure projects.  

  • Experience across several phases of the project lifecycle: Planning and scheduling, Permitting, Contracting, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning, Project execution and Stakeholder alignment 

  • Technical program management experience managing scope, schedule, budget, contracts, quality, people, risk, and communications.  

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience working with large and diverse teams.  

  • Understanding business and financial objectives.

Technical Program Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $165,600 - $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.
