Original job description

Content provided by the employer

The Selling Partner Trust and Store Integrity's (TSI) org is committed to our vision that bad actors cannot operate in our store while selling partners start and grow their business without fear of disruption, such that customers and selling partners across the globe trust us, and have confidence in the integrity of Amazon’s store.
As part of TSI org, the Seller Lifecycle Management (SLM) team is dedicated to preventing bad actors from misrepresenting their identities or locations to operate selling accounts in our store. Our mission is that customers can shop with trust and confidence that every selling account on Amazon is operated by a verified and authenticated identity at every stage of the selling lifecycle, which promotes a community built on mutual trust, transparency, and accountability. The SLM team is looking for a Principal, Product Management Tech focusing on advancing this commitment.

Key job responsibilities
Key job responsibilities
The Principal PMT on the Seller Lifecycle Management (SLM) team owns a suite of products enabling Amazon to know who we’re doing business with at every stage of the selling lifecycle after registering to sell, through any significant changes that impact the selling account. They own a suite of products that (1) continually evaluates and authenticates the 3M+ selling account population to ensure the identities operating them remain consistent, (2) detects when identity changes take place (e.g., dormancy/reactivation, owner/operator changes, etc.) and publishes a flag for partner teams to consume, (3) orchestrates the self-service workflow for sellers to transfer account ownership, (4) routes sellers to the appropriate identity checks/challenges based on risk levels, and (5) calibrates selling account capabilities based on risk levels. The PMT VP+ level goal to stop bad actors before they can impact customers and must work with cross-functional teams spanning 11 Director orgs across 5 VP orgs to achieve it. They partner with 11 teams who own 24 services their product suite depends on and must influence without authority to deliver. They own the roadmap and work closely with a team of SDEs and Scientists, and partner with internal and partner program, risk and operations team (investigators and risk managers) to execute the roadmap and drive results.

A day in the life
You analyze signals from identity change detection systems across millions of selling accounts, looking for patterns that indicate bad actors trying to commit identity fraud. You balance the need to stop fraud before it impacts customers with ensuring legitimate sellers aren't caught in the crossfire—making judgment calls that affect cost reduction efforts and thousands of sellers' experiences.

You work with engineering and science teams on machine learning models that detect identity changes across the seller lifecycle. You invent new approaches to extract and organize probabilistic signals when deterministic answers don't exist, simplifying complex fraud detection into scalable technical solutions that challenge stale mental models.

You design the right verification treatments to challenge sellers based on their risk profiles, building systems that route sellers to appropriate identity checks—inventing streamlined verification experiences for low-risk sellers while applying rigorous challenges for high-risk accounts, simplifying what was once a one-size-fits-all approach into a sophisticated, risk-calibrated verification suite.

You define product and technical strategy for your suite of science products in undefined spaces where both the approach and solution are unclear. As a leader in this adversarial domain, you set the vision for how models evaluate identity consistency, detect ownership changes, and calibrate account capabilities based on risk—paving your own path to tackle endemic challenges.

You coordinate across multiple teams and organizations, influencing without authority to align everyone on the roadmap. Your product suite depends on dozens of services owned by partner teams, and you deconstruct complex product problems into straightforward technical propositions, translating ambiguous fraud patterns into coherent product strategy that drives alignment across senior leadership.

You work with engineering and science teams who execute on your roadmap daily, building technical systems that orchestrate self-service workflows for account ownership transfers and continually authenticate the seller population. You partner with program and operations teams to take appropriate action on bad actors. You invent automated solutions that simplify what were previously manual processes, staying several steps ahead in this adversarial space while maintaining the delicate balance between security and seller experience.

About the team
Our vision is to know who we are doing business with. Knowing who we are working with is fundamental to providing personalization and a friction-free seller experience as well as assessing risk, keeping bad actors from impacting our customers, and ensuring Amazon is compliant with regulations. We do this through high-quality, automated verifications, rigorous change detection throughout a seller’s lifecycle, a high global verification bar across all our stores, dynamic verifications and treatments, and by using data across accounts to understand identity and relations and act on behalf of the seller.
