Role Summary

Description
You will manage a team of engineers building and scaling the distributed systems that underpin Apple Card and Apple Savings — spanning Java and Kotlin services, infrastructure, relational and NoSQL datastores, and high-throughput messaging pipelines. Day-to-day, you will balance hands-on technical leadership with cross-functional collaboration, ensuring the team delivers high-quality software that meets the performance and reliability bar Apple's customers expect. You will partner closely with product, design, and partner engineering teams to define roadmaps, resolve ambiguity, and grow your engineers.
Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications
10+ years of software engineering experience building and operating large-scale distributed backend systems environment.
Proven experience managing and growing a team of software engineers in a fast-paced product.
Deep expertise in Java or Kotlin, with hands-on experience designing services for scale and performance.
Strong background in cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and API design.
Experience with relational and NoSQL databases and high-throughput messaging systems (e.g., Kafka, SQS, or equivalent).
Demonstrated ability to drive cross-functional collaboration with stakeholders.
Track record of delivering high-quality software on time in ambiguous, rapidly evolving environments.
Exceptional communication skills — able to convey technical complexity clearly to both engineering teams, partners and executive stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with financial services, payments, or fintech domains, including regulatory and compliance considerations.
Hands-on experience with performance engineering, capacity planning, and large-scale system reliability practices.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $206,200 and $356,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
