Original job description

Content provided by the employer

Airbnb was born in 2007 when two hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 2 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way.

The Community You Will Join:

At Airbnb, if there’s anything related to money, it comes to the Payments team. We are building a world-class payments and commerce organization - one that currently supports 191+ countries, 70 currencies, connects dozens of payment providers and banks, processes multiple billions of dollars, and empowers more people to participate in our global marketplace.

We’re looking for people who know and use Airbnb and believe in what we’re trying to accomplish. Airbnb is a marketplace that connects guests and hosts, and Payments is central to creating the trust that makes every transaction possible.

The Platform team plays the role of conductor, bringing together engineers, designers, and data scientists to build great product experiences. Our Payments Platform Managers own outcomes across foundation, growth, and empowerment, setting the vision and strategy, defining the roadmap, and driving execution.

The Difference You Will Make:

Latin America is one of the fastest-growing and most strategically important payments regions for Airbnb. Winning here means navigating complex, market-specific regulation, deep local payment ecosystems, and fast-moving compliance requirements across Brazil, Mexico, and the broader region — while unlocking meaningful growth through local payment methods, checkout optimization, and installments. We're hiring a Product Manager to own this regional payments portfolio end to end and serve as the product leader for one of Payments' highest-impact areas.

A Typical Day:

  • Own the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for regional payments across Brazil, Mexico, and the broader region — prioritizing across regulatory, growth, and platform work.
  • Optimize checkout and conversion — reduce friction at the moment of booking, improve regional checkout conversion funnels, and lift authorization/approval and payment-success rates to grow bookings.
  • Grow through local payment methods and affordability products — expand local payment methods and installment/affordability options that improve access and conversion for regional guests.
  • Drive the full product lifecycle — discovery, PRDs, launch, ramp (ERF), and iteration — using experiments and A/B tests to validate impact.
  • Define product requirements for processor and payment-method integrations, partnering with the Partnerships and Engineering teams on delivery and performance.
  • Lead regulatory and compliance workstreams in partnership with Legal, Tax, Compliance, and Finance to meet local market requirements.
  • Define and track KPIs across conversion, cost, reliability, and revenue, and use data to prioritize and measure impact.
  • Monitor the market — regulatory change, competitor moves, and emerging payment rails — and translate it into the roadmap.
  • Partner cross-functionally across Engineering, Design, Analytics, Data Science, Finance, Compliance/Legal, Partnerships, and Country teams to execute a shared vision without direct authority.

Your Expertise:

  • 10+ years of product management experience, with a strong track record building and scaling payments or financial products — owning strategy, roadmap, and execution.
  • Deep understanding of the payments stack and how money moves in a marketplace environment — across payins, payouts, and the flow of funds.
  • Strong checkout and conversion instincts — a demonstrated ability to reduce friction at the moment of purchase and improve funnel conversion.
  • Hands-on experience with payments fundamentals: authorization and settlement, processors/gateways and acquirers, card-scheme rules, 3DS/SCA, tokenization/vaulting, and reconciliation.
  • Experience with local payment methods and affordability products (e.g., wallets, bank transfers, BNPL/installments).
  • Familiarity with the LATAM payments ecosystem — Pix, SPEI (Mexico's real-time interbank transfers), regional wallets, and installment culture ("parcelamento" / "meses sin intereses") — and local regulatory frameworks (e.g., Central Bank of Brazil, SAT Mexico).
  • Data-driven: fluent in defining KPIs, running experiments, and using analytics to guide decisions.
  • Technical acumen to partner closely with engineering and explain complex concepts simply.
  • Strong product thinking and user empathy — able to imagine the ideal experience and work backwards from customer needs.
  • English required; Portuguese and/or Spanish strongly preferred.
