The mission:
At Amazon, automation transforms how the world's largest fulfillment network moves. Behind every new R&D deployment stands a Field Safety Engineer. On the OneMHS team, we build full-stack innovation that makes our order fulfillment network faster, smarter, and — above all — safe. We make automation history through invention, solving hard problems, disrupting the industry, and building highly engaged teams.
As an R&D Field Safety Engineer, you won't be applying a safety playbook — you'll be writing one. You'll evaluate the safety risks of brand-new automation systems, partner with the design teams inventing them, and take those systems from prototype to production across the US and Canada.
What makes this role exciting:
Invent, don't inherit. You're securing technology that has never existed before, not maintaining legacy systems.
Impact. Your process and standards protect thousands of associates across a worldwide network.
Cross-disciplinary influence. You'll sit at the intersection of industrial automation engineering, construction, operations, and regulatory strategy — and present your findings to senior leadership.
Key job responsibilities
1. Perform safety evaluations during all development phases of a product.
2. Collaborate on product deployment activities with engineering, facilities, site safety, and operations teams, as well as suppliers and contractors.
3. Develop comprehensive safety validation protocols for internal and external teams installing OneMHS equipment in our fulfillment network.
4. Advise site safety, engineering, and operations teams on safety regulations and regulatory compliance concerns relating to field environment and construction safety.
A day in the life
Perform safety evaluations during the field deployment phase of a product — from Alpha and Beta prototypes to full-scale rollout.
