About Us

At Cloudflare, we are on a mission to help build a better Internet. Today the company runs one of the world’s largest networks that powers millions of websites and other Internet properties for customers ranging from individual bloggers to SMBs to Fortune 500 companies. Cloudflare protects and accelerates any Internet application online without adding hardware, installing software, or changing a line of code. Internet properties powered by Cloudflare all have web traffic routed through its intelligent global network, which gets smarter with every request. As a result, they see significant improvement in performance and a decrease in spam and other attacks. Cloudflare was named to Entrepreneur Magazine’s Top Company Cultures list and ranked among the World’s Most Innovative Companies by Fast Company.

At Cloudflare, we’re not looking for people who wait for a polished roadmap; we’re looking for the builders who see the cracks in the Internet that everyone else has simply learned to live with. We value candidates who have the instinct to spot a "normalized" problem and the AI-native curiosity to create a solution using the latest tools. Our culture is built on iteration, leveraging AI to ship faster today to make it better tomorrow, while ensuring that every improvement, no matter how small, is shared across the team to lift everyone up. If you’re the type of person who values curiosity over bureaucracy, and that AI is a partner in solving tough problems to keep the Internet moving forward, you’ll fit right in.

Location: Austin (Hybrid)

About the Role

Cloudflare operates one of the world's largest networks, processing millions of requests per second across 300+ cities. Customers manage increasingly complex portfolios of resources on the platform, but there is no unified way to organize, group, or govern them across products. The Global Resource Management team introduces a centralized metadata across every Cloudflare resource, enabling customers to annotate resources with custom tags and unlocking platform-level capabilities.

You'll join the Global Resource Management (GRM) team, a small, high-autonomy team that builds the platform infrastructure other Cloudflare products build on top of. GRM is the centralized orchestration layer for cross-cutting resource operations. If a feature needs to work across every product (tagging, sharing, universal resource identity), GRM builds and operates it.

What You'll Work On

Your primary focus is building and operating the microservices and REST APIs that power the tag-api platform. You'll design and implement API endpoints, define data models, write migrations, and build the service-layer logic that handles validation, quota enforcement, and concurrency control. The work is hands-on backend engineering: building reliable, well-tested web services that other teams depend on.

A significant part of the role is scaling the platform to support new resource types and higher-throughput use cases. This includes building bulk operations APIs that handle thousands of resources per request while considering consistency, latency, and failure-mode tradeoffs.

GRM is a platform team, and this role is horizontal by nature. The services you build are consumed by teams across Cloudflare — Workers, Zero Trust, DNS, Access, Billing — and you'll work with those teams to onboard their resources, integrate with their APIs, and ensure the platform scales with their needs. The scope is wide, the team is small, and the systems you build will be foundational to how Cloudflare manages resources at scale.

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience building production systems at scale.
  • Proficiency in Go.
  • Experience designing and building REST APIs. You understand routing, authentication, request lifecycle, and how to design APIs that other teams integrate with at scale.
  • Comfort with PostgreSQL in production including: schema design, migrations, query optimization, and understanding replication patterns.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, communicate technical tradeoffs clearly, and drive alignment with engineers you don't share a standup with.
  • Comfort with distributed systems tradeoffs; consistency models, eventual consistency, event-driven replication, and the operational implications of propagating state across multiple databases and edge infrastructure.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience building platform infrastructure or internal developer platforms (ie: systems that other engineering teams build on top of)
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes for service deployment and operations.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures, outbox patterns, or message-based replication (e.g., Watermill, Kafka, or similar).
  • Familiarity with edge computing platforms such as Cloudflare Workers or similar serverless/edge-native runtimes.

Why This Role

  • Platform-level impact. You're building and shaping infrastructure that every Cloudflare product depends on.
  • Small team, big scope. GRM is a small, high-autonomy team operating on a platform-wide mandate. You'll have outsized ownership and direct influence over technical decisions, not a ticket queue.
  • Cross-cutting by design. This role is inherently horizontal. You'll integrate with teams across the entire company; Workers, Zero Trust, DNS, Access, Billing, IAM, and understand how Cloudflare works end-to-end in a way that few roles offer.
  • Greenfield systems work. Many projects are being designed and built now. You're not maintaining legacy systems, you're defining the patterns that the rest of the platform will adopt.

We’re not just a highly ambitious, large-scale technology company. We’re a highly ambitious, large-scale technology company with a soul. Fundamental to our mission to help build a better Internet is protecting the free and open Internet.

Project Galileo: Since 2014, we've equipped more than 2,400 journalism and civil society organizations in 111 countries with powerful tools to defend themselves against attacks that would otherwise censor their work, technology already used by Cloudflare’s enterprise customers--at no cost.

Athenian Project: In 2017, we created the Athenian Project to ensure that state and local governments have the highest level of protection and reliability for free, so that their constituents have access to election information and voter registration. Since the project, we've provided services to more than 425 local government election websites in 33 states.

1.1.1.1: We released 1.1.1.1 to help fix the foundation of the Internet by building a faster, more secure and privacy-centric public DNS resolver. This is available publicly for everyone to use - it is the first consumer-focused service Cloudflare has ever released. Here’s the deal - we don’t store client IP addresses never, ever. We will continue to abide by our privacy commitment and ensure that no user data is sold to advertisers or used to target consumers.
