Original job description

Content provided by the employer

North America Stores Finance is seeking a Finance Manager to help lead the Cost Out Initiative Program (COIP) — a cross-functional program that tracks and drives incremental profitability improvements through specific retail-owned actions generating incremental Contribution Profit (CP) or reducing cost across NA Stores. COIP spans 30+ active initiatives across US Stores (all Product Families: Hardlines, Consumer Electronics, Consumables, Fashion & Fitness), Canada, Private Brands, and RBS, targeting an annual $2B+ in incremental savings ($12B+ total absolute savings).

This role sits at the intersection of retail strategy, operations, and finance — providing a unique opportunity to influence billions of dollars in cost savings while partnering with leaders across the organization from individual initiative owners to SVP reviewers. The Finance Manager will be responsible for program tracking, reporting, stakeholder management, and analytical support across the full portfolio of cost-out initiatives.

Key job responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end monthly reporting cycle for COIP, including collection of results by the 12th calendar day, variance analysis, and distribution of the monthly flash to SVP-level leadership
- Manage the quarterly business review (QBR) process, including preparation of materials covering FY actuals vs. plan, initiative-level performance, confidence levels, risks, and strategic discussion topics for a VP and SVP audience
- Facilitate the monthly COIP Spotlight series by determining topics in partnership with the COIP Principal PM and ensuring spotlighted teams deliver a discussion based document for a VP audience.
- Track and report on 30+ active initiatives across eight strategic pillars: Optimized Buying, Packaging, Outbound Efficiency, Vendor/Customer Experience, Selection Management, Inventory Management, Private Brands, and Canada
- Develop and maintain savings methodologies in partnership with initiative-level Finance SMEs, ensuring consistency between Total Absolute Savings and Incremental Savings
- Maintain the source of all COI Methodologies, documenting exact mathematical equations, metric definitions, nuances, risks, and challenges for each initiative
- Conduct variance analysis against plan targets, preparing root cause commentary for variances
- Support operating planning inputs, including Total Absolute Savings and Incremental Savings by Month/GL/Channel, and FC Type Split ratios (Sort/Non-Sort/AMXL) by initiative
- Partner with the Business Co-Lead (Principal Product Manager) to facilitate cross-organizational collaboration between US Retail Stores and Operations, including tri-annual Think Big workshops and the monthly spotlight series
- Manage the new initiative intake process, evaluating submissions against eligibility thresholds
- Partner with Operations to connect and validate initiative performance to corresponding Cost-to-Serve per-unit metrics and Operating Profit improvement to ensure holistic P&L optimization and attribution

About the team
The COIP team sits within RO&I Finance, North America Stores Finance (NASF). We serve as the forum for cross-organizational collaboration between US Retail Stores and Operations to drive cost savings and cost avoidance through category-driven initiatives. We partner with Retail Category Teams, Operations (SCOT, WWOS, Global Logistics), BI Teams, RBS, Canada Finance, and Supply Chain to deliver measurable P&L impact.

COIP operates as the "playbook" — reflecting the specific actions the business is taking to improve the P&L — while Cost to Serve (CTS) serves as the "scoreboard" — reflecting how those actions show up in the P&L. This role offers exposure to the full breadth of NA Stores cost levers and direct visibility to VP and SVP leadership.
