Industrial Design Internship

Job Description 

Internship details 

• Period ~6 months (flexible, minimum of 4 months)  

• Hours a week 40 

• Location Industrial Design Center in Eindhoven (100% on-site) 

• Start date 1st of each month 

• Role  Applicants must choose and clearly indicate in the motivation letter one of the two roles described below: UX/UI Digital Design intern or Design Strategist/Researcher intern.

The work 

Accenture Industrial Design, formerly known as VanBerlo, is a multidisciplinary team of designers, engineers, and researchers developing physical and digital products across consumer and professional industries, from early concepts through to development. The team is part of Accenture, a global consulting and technology company that helps businesses innovate and tackle complex challenges through strategy, design, engineering, and technology. 

 

Team(s) 

Accenture Industrial design is a group of 30+ creatives, including industrial designers, design engineers, UX/digital designers, strategists, researchers, developers, and project managers. Here both physical products and digital experiences are designed, creating innovative solutions that seamlessly connect both worlds. Through proof of concepts and prototyping, ideas are iterated upon and refined into scalable solutions that inspire confident decision making.   

You will get a dedicated mentor to help you define your learning goals and find the projects that suit you and your goals best.

 

Here’s what you’ll need (for all roles)

• You are enrolled at a university during the entire length of the internship, pursuing a degree in Design Engineering, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Creative Technology, Interaction Design, Strategic Product Design or similar.     

• You are an EU citizen or enrolled at a Dutch university. 

• A hands-on can-do attitude    

• A portfolio of your work showcasing the process, what excites you and the skills you bring.     

• Proficiency in English. 

Daily tasks and Requirements 

You will work on a variety of projects across our two domains, Professional and Consumer Goods & Services. Please indicate which of the two roles below you are applying for. 

UX / UI Digital Design intern 

Are you eager to gain hands-on experience in UX design? Do you enjoy creating intuitive and visually engaging digital experiences that connect the physical and digital worlds? 

You will develop creative and user-centered solutions, participate in brainstorming workshops, research user needs, and design user journeys, wireframes, and digital interfaces. You will also build interactive prototypes and contribute to the development of phygital experiences and smart, connected products. 

Specific requirements of this role: 

• Experience creating wireframes, user flows, and digital prototypes 

• Strong aesthetic skills in interface and graphic design 

• Proficiency in Figma 

• Affinity with physical product design, phygital experiences, and smart, connected products 

• A hands-on, can-do attitude 

• (Nice to have) Experience with web development and interactive prototyping 

• (Nice to have) Industrial Design skills or background 

 

Design Strategist/Researcher intern 

Do you want to gain experience in the ever-evolving field of industrial design? Do you like to work to understand and explore what good design can possibly be with design research and strategic design exploration? Then you will work with both the Design Research Expert team and the Strategic Design Expert team. 

You will participate and conduct research for design exploration, including interviewing, observations, testing, and validating concepts (in-person or online dependent on project scope). You will also participate in creative/brainstorm workshops and strategic ideation sessions, come up with innovative and creative solutions to strategic design problems. Strategic design approach for product service system strategies for sustainability innovation, research and analyzing complexity with visualization and systems mapping and service design work such as product journey mapping and assessments.   

Specific requirements of this role: 

• Passion for design strategy and have a good understanding of design research and design exploration  

• Open for collaboration with engineers, designers, and suppliers to align on strategic design goals  

• Foundational service design knowledge   

• Open to connect with people, curious to ask questions and have deep understanding of environment, subject matter   

• (Nice to have) Dutch speaking 

• (Nice to have) Have experience in design research, both qualitative and quantitative approaches    

• (Nice to have) Have interest in storytelling and how to present back key insights and knowledge to designers and clients   

• (Nice to have) Interest in navigating complexity and enjoy solving systemic problems   

• (Nice to have) Service and holistic design methodology knowledge   

• (Nice to have) Industrial Design skills or background
