Java Developer - Assistant Vice President

As a Senior Java Backend Developer, you will design and build high-performance backend services that power large-scale data processing applications at Citi. You'll apply modern Java and Spring expertise, alongside AI-assisted development tools and prompt engineering, to accelerate delivery and strengthen code quality across the development lifecycle. This role gives you ownership of scalable architecture for complex data pipelines while collaborating with cross-functional teams on business-critical systems.

 

Responsibilities

• Design and develop high-performance backend services for data processing applications using Java 17 and Spring Boot.
• Build scalable data processing architectures using modern design patterns to handle intensive calculations and business logic.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new product features.
• Maintain optimal performance and responsiveness of backend applications while resolving bugs and system bottlenecks.
• Practice test-driven development to strengthen testability, modularity, and test coverage.
• Apply static code analysis tools such as SonarQube to uphold code quality and maintainability.
• Optimize SQL queries and manage complex data pipelines through efficient data joins.
• Apply AI-assisted development tools and prompt engineering techniques to accelerate delivery and improve code quality.

 

Required Qualifications & Skills

• 5+ years of hands-on experience developing Java backend applications using Java 17 or later.
• Strong proficiency in the Spring Framework, including Spring Boot, Spring Data, and Spring Cloud.
• Excellent knowledge of SQL and relational or NoSQL databases, with experience optimizing queries and data models.
• Solid understanding of in-memory data loading techniques and efficient data joining strategies for large data pipelines.
• In-depth knowledge of Java tooling, including build tools such as Maven or Gradle and testing frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito.
• Experience applying design patterns and architectural principles such as microservices and event-driven architecture, supported by test-driven development and static code analysis tools such as SonarQube.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience, along with strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to varied audiences.

 

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes or OpenShift.
• Knowledge of distributed data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark or Apache Flink.
• Master's degree in a related field.
