Original job description

Content provided by the employer

AWS is building data center infrastructure to support our digital way of life, and the public conversation around that growth — power demand, grid reliability, and water use, — is increasingly shaped by regulators, policymakers, elected officials, and community stakeholders. The Energy & Water team is looking for a Senior Manager in Public Affairs, to lead how we engage in that conversation.

In this role you bring a public affairs lens to water: you understand industry trends and the regulatory landscape, you engage with the right internal and external stakeholders, and translate that understanding into the right messaging, You are the expert who shows up, engages authentically with community members, organizations, public officials, builds lasting relationships , and contributes to an informed, transparent, and productive public dialogue. You will be one of a small cohort of 3–4 regional representatives who collectively own how the Energy & Water team builds public engagement, in coordination with our policy, legal, community, comms, and economic development partners.

Field live questions about water use, wastewater — including detailed questions from engaged community members and advocacy groups

Engage authentically on water topics in real time — accurately representing Amazon's approach and genuinely addressing community questions

Develop and maintain talking points, FAQs, and Q&A guidance on energy and water topics for use by the broader team, Comms, and cross-functional partners

Provide the water subject matter foundation to develop materials and translate complex topics into channel-specific formats

Serve as a key resource when the team needs to respond quickly to emerging topics or prepare a spokesperson

Serve as the Water liaison to Public Policy, Legal, Community Engagement, and Economic Development partner teams, aligning on messaging, sequencing, and tone before positions reach external audiences

Work closely with the External Engagement team to ensure Water subject matter is well-represented in event programming

Coordinate with Water SMEs to stay current on technical data (FAQ maintenance, approved stats, updated infrastructure positions)

Support regional leads and the broader team with ad hoc communications needs — presentations, talking points for senior stakeholders, positioning for emerging issues

Drive negotiations and agreements to support community benefit water projects as needed
