Job Description

As part of the Network Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team, the Vision Systems Engineer III will help develop and scale next generation vision inspection capabilities across the manufacturing network. This role will serve as a technical leader for offline vision inspection, initially focused on the Matroid platform, translating emerging technology into practical, scalable manufacturing solutions.

This is not a traditional sustaining engineering role. The successful candidate will operate at the intersection of manufacturing, automation, software, and data, developing new technical capabilities and establishing approaches that can be deployed across multiple sites. The role requires curiosity, technical versatility, and the ability to move from an undefined problem to a robust solution while building the knowledge and standards that allow others to succeed.

Location: On-site in Logan, UT.  Relocation assistance is NOT provided.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check, which includes a drug screening.

A Day in the Life

  • Develop, test, optimize, and maintain Matroid vision detectors and the image datasets used to train and evaluate them.
  • Connect vision configurations to SKUs, Bills of Material, and manufacturing data to enable product specific inspection.
  • Design and integrate vision hardware, software, databases, networks, controls, and manufacturing system interfaces.
  • Troubleshoot detector and system performance, identify root causes, and develop scalable solutions.
  • Support testing, validation, deployment, startup, and continuous improvement across multiple manufacturing sites.
  • Establish technical standards and coach site engineering teams to independently support and expand deployed systems.
  • Coordinate Engineering, Operations, Quality, IT, OT, software resources, vendors, and other functions to close technical gaps and advance the program.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Automation, or a related technical discipline.

Experience

3 to 5 years of relevant technical engineering experience. Strong candidates may come from machine vision, automation, manufacturing systems, controls, systems integration, software development, or similar technical disciplines.

Experience in several of the following areas is beneficial, but candidates are not expected to have experience in all of them:

  • Machine vision or computer vision
  • Python or software development
  • PLC programming, Ignition, or industrial controls
  • SQL, databases, networking, APIs, or system integration
  • Agile software development workflows
  • Software testing, validation, configuration management, or software lifecycle management
  • Integrated manufacturing or multi-site technology deployments
  • Prior Matroid experience is beneficial but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

This role requires a strong systems thinker who enjoys solving problems that cross traditional engineering boundaries. The successful candidate must be able to learn unfamiliar technologies quickly, recognize where additional capability is needed, and draw from previous experience to develop solutions when an established playbook does not yet exist.

The engineer must be comfortable with ambiguity, hands on technical work, and evolving responsibilities. Success will require strong cross functional collaboration, technical ownership, and the ability to influence and coordinate work across sites and disciplines without relying on formal authority.
