Position Summary
The Senior Director, Value Delivery Office & Transformation will lead the Value Delivery Office (VDO) within the Global Development Operations (GDO) Transformation & Innovation function, reporting to the Vice President, Transformation & Innovation. This role is accountable for governing GDO’s non-drug portfolio of strategic initiatives and ensuring they deliver measurable, sustained business value. The Senior Director will manage a team of 2–3 associates and provide matrix leadership across GDO functions and the product-oriented organization. The role will also lead process transformation and redesign, embedding AI, automation, and advanced analytics into core workflows to build an AI-enabled, decision-centric operating model. Partnering with GDO leadership, the product-oriented organization, and GDO functions, this leader will help shape transformation priorities and drive enterprise value realization through the adoption of new ways of working.
The ideal candidate combines transformation and portfolio leadership with deep operational and analytical fluency, and is equally comfortable shaping strategy with executives and getting into the detail of workflow design. Strong executive presence, change leadership, and a track record of turning ambitious initiatives into delivered outcomes within large, matrixed pharmaceutical organizations are essential to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Establish and lead the Value Delivery Office, setting standards for portfolio governance, stage-gating, prioritization, and performance oversight of GDO’s non-drug initiatives.
- Partner with the VP and GDO leadership to define transformation priorities, shape the roadmap, and align initiatives to GDO strategy.
- Drive delivery of key programs and initiatives, ensuring clear ownership, milestones, risk management, and accountability across a matrixed environment.
- Lead and develop a team of 2–3 associates, and provide matrix leadership across GDO functions and the product-oriented organization to deliver initiatives without direct authority.
- Own benefits realization end to end: define baselines, KPIs, and value metrics, track outcomes, and report financial and non-financial impact to senior leadership.
- Lead process transformation and redesign, architecting end-to-end workflows and value streams around an AI-enabled, decision-centric operating model.
- Embed AI, automation, and advanced analytics into core workflows, partnering with product and technology teams to deploy digital business processes at scale.
- Connect innovation, AI, and transformation efforts into one coherent portfolio, ensuring AI initiatives are strategically aligned, responsibly governed, and scaled for measurable impact.
- Lead change management and adoption, driving new ways of working and a data-driven culture across large, distributed teams.
- Build and evolve performance management capabilities, including value dashboards, KPI frameworks, and decision-support tools, with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Partner with the product-oriented organization and GDO functions to align product roadmaps, functional priorities, and transformation outcomes.
- Translate complex portfolio and value data into compelling narratives and clear recommendations for senior and executive audiences.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations, Data Science, or a related field; Master's degree (MBA or equivalent) strongly preferred.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in transformation, strategy, business operations, portfolio or program management, or management consulting, with significant tenure in pharmaceutical drug development or life sciences organizations.
- Demonstrated leadership at a Director or Senior Director level, with experience directly managing and developing a small team and leading through matrix influence, including influencing senior executives, in complex, global organizations.
- Proven experience establishing or leading a value delivery, transformation, or portfolio management office, including governance and benefits realization.
- Demonstrated success leading end-to-end process redesign and operating model change, ideally incorporating AI, automation, or other digital technologies.
- Track record championing AI and advanced analytics adoption at scale; experience leading digital transformation initiatives strongly preferred.
- Strong change leadership skills, with the ability to drive adoption and cultivate a data-centric culture across large, distributed teams.
- Strong financial acumen, including experience linking initiative outcomes to business cases, forecasts, and value targets.
- Exceptional executive communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to simplify complexity and drive alignment at all levels.
- Familiarity with data visualization and analytics platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI); advanced proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel.
- Solid understanding of clinical trial processes and drug development operations; familiarity with governance, compliance, and risk management in a regulated pharmaceutical setting.
