Description
Join our Flow Cytometry engineering team as a technical leader shaping product concepts into coherent system designs. You will lead front-end systems engineering for complex scientific instrumentation, translating customer and stakeholder needs into requirements, defining system architecture and workflows, and guiding design decisions from feasibility through product development. You will work across microfluidics, acoustics, optics, electronics, firmware/software and other disciplines to ensure the complete instrument meets its intended performance.
Responsibilities
· Lead stakeholder and customer-needs analysis; negotiate requirements and tradeoffs, define measurable system requirements, and maintain end-to-end traceability.
· Develop system context, use cases, functional workflows, theory of operation, architecture, interface intent and critical-to-performance specifications with product and design leads.
· Plan and lead feasibility studies, proof-of-concept work and trade studies to retire technical uncertainty, establish achievable performance targets and inform design direction.
· Identify and manage system-level technical risks; lead risk-retirement priorities and communicate clear recommendations when performance, scope, cost or schedule objectives compete.
· Own or lead the Systems Integration Plan and readiness criteria so integration sequence, interfaces and risk-retirement builds follow the architecture; partner with integration and V&V teams.
· Guide system-level change-impact assessments, root-cause investigations and lifecycle decisions; contribute to engineering practices and mentor others in systems thinking.
Required Qualifications
· Advanced degree plus 6 years of experience, or bachelor's degree plus 8 years of experience in systems engineering, product development, and technical leadership for complex scientific instrumentation.
· Bachelor's or advanced degree in Bioengineering, Biomedical, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics Engineering, or a related engineering or scientific discipline.
· Demonstrated hands-on test experience with complex instruments, electromechanical systems or multidisciplinary products.
· Strong systems thinking and experience translating needs into clear requirements, architecture, interfaces and testable performance specifications; working knowledge of product development, requirements traceability, design controls and verification concepts.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including feasibility or experimental data analysis, structured root-cause investigation and technical risk assessment such as FMEA or equivalent.
· Ability to lead technical discussions, make evidence-based recommendations and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Skills
· Knowledge of flow cytometry principles and instrument workflows, including sample handling and fluidics, acoustic focusing, laser excitation, optical detection, signal acquisition and processing, and instrument control.
· Experience working across multidisciplinary instrument subsystems such as microfluidics, acoustics, optics, electronics, firmware/software and consumables, with an understanding of their interfaces and effects on system performance.
· Experience with life-science or analytical instrumentation, flow cytometry, or the Attune platform and its microfluidic, acoustic or optical subsystems
