Role Overview

Citi's Digital Assets Technology organization is seeking a Director to lead the technology platform strategy and delivery for a broad set of Digital Assets (DA) use cases. This is a senior, highly visible leadership role requiring a strategic operator who can partner closely with existing Business, Product and Engineering Heads while independently owning a wide scope of business-aligned deliverables.

The successful candidate will be translating business strategy into an executable technology roadmap, and ensuring that engineering delivery is tightly aligned to the needs of Digital Asset product and business stakeholders across Investor and Issuer Services, as well as other emerging Digital Assets/DLT use cases.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Define and own the technology strategy and roadmap for Digital Assets use cases including Investor Services, Issuer Services, and adjacent/emerging digital asset propositions across Citi Lines of Business.
  • Partner with the Digital Assets Technology Head to shape the broader DA technology platform vision, investment priorities, and multi-year platform strategy.
  • Represent Technology in senior business and product forums, acting as a trusted advisor on technical feasibility, architecture direction, and delivery trade-offs.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Work in close lock-step with existing Engineering Heads to ensure coherent architecture, shared platform capabilities, and consistent engineering standards across the DA technology estate.
  • Build strong relationships with Product, Operations, Risk, Compliance, and Legal stakeholders to ensure technology solutions meet regulatory, control, and business requirements specific to digital assets (e.g., tokenization, custody, settlement, markets, wealth).
  • Act as the primary technology point of contact for Investor and Issuer Services business lines.

Delivery Management

  • Own end-to-end delivery accountability for a broad portfolio of DA initiatives, ensuring on-time, high-quality, and compliant delivery.
  • Establish and drive governance, prioritization, and tracking mechanisms across multiple concurrent workstreams.
  • Proactively identify, escalate, and manage risks, dependencies, and blockers across the program portfolio.

People & Organizational Leadership

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team (direct and matrixed) of engineering and delivery professionals.
  • Foster a culture of engineering excellence, innovation, and accountability.
  • Support talent development, succession planning, and organizational design as the DA technology function scales.

Governance, Risk & Controls

  • Ensure all technology solutions adhere to Citi's architecture, security, resiliency, and regulatory standards.
  • Partner with Risk and Compliance teams to navigate the evolving regulatory landscape for digital assets.
  • Champion sound engineering and operational risk practices across the DA technology portfolio.

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience in the software industry, including leadership roles
  • 12+ years of progressive technology leadership experience within financial services, including significant experience in capital markets, custody, securities services, or digital assets.
  • 10+ years proven experience leading large, complex, multi-workstream technology portfolios in a global, matrixed organization.
  • 5+ years’ experience and familiarity with digital asset / blockchain / distributed ledger technology concepts (tokenization, digital custody, smart contracts, DLT settlement) highly desirable.
  • Direct experience with Investor Services and/or Issuer Services business domains (custody, fund administration, asset servicing, corporate actions, issuance platforms) strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated track record of partnering with peer Engineering leadership to deliver shared platform outcomes.
  • Strong people leadership experience, including building and scaling technology teams.
  • Excellent executive communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience presenting to senior management and regulators.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory and control frameworks relevant to financial services technology.

Preferred Skills

  • Hands-on technical background (architecture, cloud, distributed systems) sufficient to engage credibly with engineering teams.
  • Experience with emerging digital asset infrastructure providers, custodians, or DLT platforms.
