About the role
Original posting provided by Jump Trading
Jump Trading Group is committed to world class research. We empower exceptional talents in Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science to seek scientific boundaries, push through them, and apply cutting edge research to global financial markets. Our culture is unique. Constant innovation requires fearlessness, creativity, intellectual honesty, and a relentless competitive streak. We believe in winning together and unlocking unique individual talent by incenting collaboration and mutual respect. At Jump, research outcomes drive more than superior risk adjusted returns. We design, develop, and deploy technologies that change our world, fund start-ups across industries, and partner with leading global research organizations and universities to solve problems.
Our trading teams are each comprised of a dynamic group of traders, quantitative researchers, and engineers who work together to examine the global markets, seeking to understand the complexities of various traded products and exchanges. They leverage their impeccable statistical analysis and data mining skills, using the results of their research to make forecasts and develop profitable predictive trading models.
What You'll Do:
- Monitor strategy performance, P&L, margin usage and positions throughout the trading day.
- Spot, respond to and report unusual behaviour, such as changes in message counts, packet loss, or large moves in positions or P&L.
- Manage live strategies by adjusting parameters as market conditions change.
- Use sound risk judgement: decide when to switch off an underperforming strategy, and when to change parameters or size up responsibly.
- Know your products in depth, including when and how they trade, their last trading dates and their trading hours.
- Backtest changes to existing strategies, as well as new strategies.
- Find new opportunities and ideas that make money.
- Explore and use Jump's in-house tools and services.
- Book OTC trades when needed.
- Triage production issues, both trading and technology, then prioritise and delegate them. Give the people fixing them everything they need to reproduce the problem.
- Keep uptime as high as possible so that we're trading whenever the market is open.
- Communicate clearly and promptly with the Energy team and the back office about current or potential issues.
- Build strong relationships with brokers, including meeting them in person.
- Take over on time from the Asia team each day and be flexible on hours so the trading day is fully covered.
- Write short end-of-day reports on key matters such as risk, system changes, or incidents that affected trading.
- Maintain the production configs used for trading and research and check daily for updates from the team and the wider firm.
- Build reliable, supportable tools that make trading and operations work better, for example by streamlining processes or improving monitoring.
- Share what you know by keeping the SOPs on Confluence up to date so others can follow them.
- Other duties as assigned or needed.
Skills You'll Need:
- Experience in a trading, trading operations, or strategy support role, ideally in energy or another futures or commodities market.
- Strong risk awareness and the confidence to act decisively on live positions under pressure.
- Good knowledge of exchange-traded products, including contract specs, expiries, and trading hours.
- Programming ability in Python, C++ and shell scripting, enough to build tools that others can support.
- Comfort with backtesting and data analysis, plus curiosity about finding new sources of P&L.
- The ability to triage technical and trading issues calmly, prioritise them sensibly and escalate them clearly.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, from short end-of-day reports to working with back office and brokers.
- Good relationship-building skills, including meeting counterparties in person.
- Flexibility on working hours to cover the trading day and take over from Asia.
- A collaborative, process-minded approach to documenting and sharing knowledge.
- Reliable and predictable availability.
Benefits include:
- Private Medical, Vision and Dental Insurance
- Travel Medical Insurance
- Group Pension Scheme
- Group Life Assurance and Income Protection Schemes
- Paid Parental Leave
- Parking and Commuter Benefits
