Summary

At Apple, great ideas become products that touch the lives of billions. The people here don't just build technology; they create experiences that transform entire industries. It's the diversity of those people and their ideas that inspires the innovation running through everything we do.

Apple's Wallet, Payments & Commerce (WPC) team is at the center of that work, redefining how people pay, access, and interact with financial services every day. Our work powers mission-critical experiences like Apple Pay, Apple Cash, Apple Card, Identity, Transit, Access, Tap to Pay, and connected services that enable commerce at global scale. Beneath these customer-facing features lies a world-class, highly resilient, and scalable technical foundation.

We are looking for a Manager of Engineering Program Management to lead our Infrastructure EPM team. In this role, you will lead complex, large-scale technical programs spanning cloud engineering, data services, traffic and network management, systems engineering, partner connectivity, and site reliability. You are a proven people leader with technical depth who thrives on mentoring teams, driving operational rigor, and translating complex architectural challenges into dependable execution.

Description

This role leads program management across the foundational infrastructure, scalability, and reliability portfolio powering Wallet, Payments & Commerce. You will partner directly with Infrastructure, Service Operations, and cross-functional partner teams across Apple to drive end-to-end planning, architectural alignment, and flawless operational delivery.

As a people leader, you will mentor, guide, and scale a team of Engineering Program Managers, establishing operational best practices and instilling a culture of technical rigor, accountability, and proactive risk mitigation. You are equally comfortable leading technical discussions in areas such as infrastructure, site reliability, and operations with engineers as you are communicating program roadmaps, trade-offs, and strategic risks to executive leadership.

Responsibilities

Lead Infrastructure and Operational Reliability Program Execution: Drive end-to-end delivery of complex technical infrastructure programs across cloud and on-prem infrastructure and operational reliability initiatives.
Team Leadership and Development: Build, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team of Engineering Program Managers; foster career growth, provide actionable coaching, and elevate team-wide execution standards.
Cross-Functional Alignment and Ownership: Lead all aspects of program planning (defining scope, timelines, resource allocation, and technical roadmaps) in close collaboration with Infrastructure, Service Operations, and external partner engineering teams.
Dependency and Risk Management: Proactively identify cross-organizational dependencies, critical path constraints, and technical risks; establish actionable mitigation strategies and communicate trade-offs effectively.
Executive Visibility: Provide clear, data-driven visibility into program health, capacity constraints, and key milestones through structured executive reviews and concise dashboards.
Process and Operational Excellence: Continuously optimize PMO processes, engineering workflows, incident post-mortems/readiness reviews, and partner onboarding processes to support global scale and high availability.

Minimum Qualifications

7+ years of experience in technical program and project management, including managing a team of program managers.
Experience driving large-scale projects in areas like application integration, infrastructure migrations, system modernization, distributed backend systems, or platforms.
Demonstrated ability to deliver large cross-functional programs and roadmaps, identify risks, and drive results.
Strong technical acumen, able to engage credibly with engineering teams on architecture, system design, and technical trade-offs.
Skilled at navigating ambiguity, building alignment across competing priorities, and leading teams to successful delivery.
Effective decision-maker who balances risks and benefits for the overall good of the organization.
Results-oriented and able to operate with minimal supervision in a cross-functional environment while managing program details and broader dependencies.
Experience influencing and building trust with partners and senior executive leadership to move programs forward.
Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills, with a proven ability to synthesize deep technical details into clear executive narratives.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with financial transaction platforms (e.g., payments, fintech, high-throughput transaction processing).
Working knowledge of security, compliance, data isolation, and encryption standards in cloud or bare-metal enterprise environments.
Ability to facilitate technical design and architecture discussions and translate technical concepts into actionable project plans.
Passion for mentoring and developing Engineering Program Managers, measuring success through the growth and impact of your team.
Flexibility to handle directional change and concurrently manage multiple priorities.
