On the Global Energy & Sustainability team within Places, our mission is to drive sustainability and carbon reduction in Apple’s facilities, services, and products through transformative energy, water, and waste management initiatives to leave the world better than we found it.
Description
Apple’s Global Energy & Sustainability Team (GEST) is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Sustainability Reporting/Audit Analyst to support our expanding global compliance reporting obligations, internal and external audit assurance, and carbon accounting across Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions.
With rapid growth in mandatory climate disclosure frameworks and heightened audit scrutiny worldwide, this role serves as a key operational and analytical anchor for Apple’s environmental data integrity. You will be responsible for end-to-end data collection, emissions calculations, rigorous QA/QC workflows, and audit defense.
The ideal candidate blends a solid foundation in greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting with practical experience in audit preparation, internal controls, and third-party assurance. You will work cross-functionally with internal teams—including Environment and Supply Chain Innovations, Internal Audit, Government Affairs, Public Relations, Finance, and Legal—as well as external assurance auditors.
This role requires 3 days/week in the office and is based in San Jose, CA.
Responsibilities
Audit Support & Data Assurance: Assist with end-to-end third-party audit preparation across Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 footprints. Execute day-to-day data QA/QC, test sample utility invoices, organize supporting evidence, and fulfill ad hoc verification requests from regional teams (e.g., Australia, France, UK, Spain, Japan, China).
Compliance Reporting & Filings: Support data collection, data entry, and workflow tracking for mandatory global reporting frameworks (including California SB 253, EU CSRD, Australia AASB S2, UK SECR, and Spain NFR) in coordination with cross-functional and regional leads.
Emissions Accounting & Vendor Data Collection: Help collect, clean, and organize activity data for Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions; review vendor clean energy claims for completeness and consistency.
REC Retirement & Management: Support the tracking, registry administration, and timely retirement of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) and Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs) across global registries to ensure compliance with Scope 2 market-based accounting and certificate validity rules.
Standards Monitoring & Forecasting Support: Track updates from standard-setting bodies (e.g., GHG Protocol, RE100) and assist senior team members in preparing accurate country-level emissions and clean energy forecasts and support quarterly/bi-annual analytical inputs into the 2030 Corporate Forecast for senior leadership review.
Minimum Qualifications
BA/BS degree in Accounting, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Carbon Accounting, Environmental Engineering, Data Analytics, Economics, Finance, or a related field.
2–4+ years of professional experience in greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting, corporate sustainability reporting, environmental compliance, or sustainability audit/assurance/risk consulting.
Hands-on experience developing data QA/QC protocols, sample testing, documentation of internal controls, and managing auditor request lists.
Strong quantitative and analytical skills with high attention to detail and commitment to data defensibility.
Experience participating in or coordinating third-party assurance engagements, financial audits, or environmental audits.
Strong working knowledge of corporate carbon accounting frameworks and regulations (e.g., GHG Protocol Corporate Standard, Scope 2 Guidance, Scope 3 Guidance, CSRD/ESRS, California SB 253, RE100).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate calculation methodologies, controls, and audit trails to cross-functional partners and external auditors.
Strong project management and time management skills to execute on multiple priorities in a fast-paced global setting.
Preferred Qualifications
Curiosity to learn and willingness to leverage energy expertise across an array of new topics.
Background in a Big 4 or major consulting firm’s Climate & Sustainability Assurance, ESG Audit, or Internal Audit practice.
Demonstrated success collaborating across technical and operational teams to build, onboard, and scale internal tools that simplify workflows and drive efficiency.
