Description
Apple is seeking an experienced Quality Engineering Manager to lead a QE team operating across a diverse and fast-moving product landscape. This is a second-level role: you will guide and develop a group of managers along with a Technical Directly Responsible Individual (DRI), while keeping key stakeholders informed on quality status, risk, and readiness.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working across multiple product areas and technology stacks, and can communicate clearly and confidently with senior stakeholders — translating quality signals into information they can act on.
Responsibilities
Lead through leaders. Manage, coach, and develop a team of QE managers and a Technical DRI, ensuring each has clear priorities, growth support, and the guidance needed to lead their own teams effectively.
Own quality strategy for your area. Set direction for test strategy, coverage, and release readiness across your teams' projects — adapting approach as priorities and technology shift.
Support automation as a force multiplier. Champion test automation adoption across your teams, and partner with the Technical DRI to keep automation practices consistent, reliable, and scaled to project needs.
Manage up effectively. Proactively surface risks, tradeoffs, and status to your leadership chain with clarity and appropriate urgency — before being asked. Frame quality data in terms your stakeholders can act on, and build trust through consistent, transparent communication.
Advocate for the team. Stand firm as a supportive advocate for your engineers and managers when negotiating scope, timelines, and resourcing with cross-functional partners — protecting the team's ability to do rigorous, sustainable quality work while still finding workable compromises.
Navigate ambiguity and change. Operate confidently in an environment with shifting requirements, tight timelines, and evolving priorities; make sound calls with incomplete information.
Cross-functional partnership. Work closely with Engineering, Program Management, and Design partners to embed quality early in the development lifecycle and align on release criteria.
Collaborate across teams at Apple. Coordinate with peer QE and engineering teams in other groups to align on shared standards, tools, and dependencies, and to bring in outside best practices.
Resource and team planning. Balance headcount, skill mix, and workload across your teams; help identify and close skill gaps, including automation depth.
Process and tooling improvement. Help refine test methodologies, defect management, metrics/reporting, and quality gates used across your teams.
Talent development. Support the growth of your managers and their engineers; mentor managers on people leadership, technical judgment, and communicating effectively with stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications

Solid track record of "managing up" — communicating clearly with senior stakeholders, including surfacing difficult status updates and defending quality positions when needed.
Experience managing through other managers, including a Technical DRI or equivalent senior IC.
Good judgment balancing quality rigor against schedule and business realities.
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of test automation frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, or scripting/programming (e.g., Python, Swift, or similar).
