Original job description

Content provided by the employer

Amazon Robotics Technical Services (RTS) is building a central hardware support function to keep the world's largest robotics fleet running, and we are hiring a Senior Manager, Hardware Development to lead it. This leader will own hardware outcomes across the fleet, from readiness of new products, through in-field hardware services, reliability, and maintainability. You will lead multiple teams — Custom Tools, Retrofits, and Problem Management — along with individual contributors, and build the central Hardware Support Engineering capability that partners across every hardware team in Amazon Robotics. This is a high-visibility, high-ownership role for a leader with deep hardware expertise who can set strategy, raise the engineering bar, and operate across organizational boundaries as the function grows.

Key job responsibilities
- Lead and grow a multi-team hardware organization spanning Custom Tools, Retrofits, and Problem Management, plus individual contributors, with scope expected to expand as the function matures.
- Set the multi-year technical and organizational strategy for central hardware support across Amazon Robotics, defining the mechanisms, standards, and roadmap that keep the world's largest robotics fleet serviceable at scale.
- Act as the central hardware authority partnering across product engineering, deployment, RME, field hardware support, safety, and supply chain teams — aligning priorities and resolving contentious technical trade-offs beyond any single team.
- Build and develop leaders: hire, coach, and grow managers and senior ICs, and raise the engineering and operational-excellence bar across the organization.
- Own headcount planning, team structure, and delivery accountability as the organization scales, surfacing risks early and driving them to resolution.

A day in the life
You review the hardware portfolio and delivery risks across Custom Tools, Retrofits, and Problem Management with your leads, and decide where to steer resources. You walk the BOS12 lab on an in-progress build of a custom tool and pressure-test a reliability trade-off. You meet cross-functional partners in RME, field support, and supply chain to unblock fleet-wide issues with spare parts and training. You coach a manager on a growth plan, review an escalation, and shape the longer-term strategy for central hardware support — balancing today's field needs against the organization's multi-year direction.

About the team
Amazon Robotics designs and deploys the robotics solutions that power Amazon's fulfillment network. Robotics Technical Services keeps the fleet running. Your organization is the central hardware function — spanning Custom Tools, Retrofits, and Problem Management, and growing into a broader central Hardware Support Engineering capability. We build what nothing off-the-shelf can deliver, work across every hardware team in Amazon Robotics and resolve systemic issue ocuring in the field.
