Software QE Engineering Manager

Claris International Inc., an Apple company, is seeking a Manager of Software Quality (QE) to lead a team of quality engineers responsible for validating and ensuring the reliability of mission-critical server and data platform technologies for client-facing solutions.

In this role, you will combine deep expertise in quality engineering, platform validation, automation strategy, and release readiness with strong execution leadership. You will ensure complex platform initiatives are delivered on time, meet production-grade quality standards, and provide exceptional customer reliability and operational resilience. You will partner closely with engineering, cloud, infrastructure, and product teams to translate technical requirements into scalable validation strategies while fostering a culture of accountability, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.

As an Software Quality Engineering (QE) Manager, you will lead the quality strategy, validation architecture, and release readiness for mission-critical server and FileMaker platform technologies. You will own the end-to-end quality lifecycle, partnering with cross-functional teams to ensure scalable, resilient, and secure capabilities are delivered. Your leadership will drive technical quality direction, enabling reliable data services and world-class customer experiences across the ecosystem.

Responsibilities

Lead teams of quality assurance engineers to design, execute, and evolve comprehensive quality strategies for FileMaker Server and platform technologies.
Define test architecture and establish scalable automation frameworks across Server, Client, WebDirect, APIs, and cloud or on-premises deployments.
Partner with engineering and product management teams to ensure clear quality requirements, acceptance criteria, and release readiness standards.
Drive performance, scalability, failover, backup, and high-availability validation for production-scale environments.
Lead root-cause analysis efforts for defects, coordinate cross-functional resolution strategies, and enforce quality standards for security, compliance, and disaster recovery.
Manage dependencies, risks, schedules, and tradeoffs proactively to support committed delivery timelines.
Coach engineers to think from a customer-impact perspective, fostering a culture of execution excellence and continuous improvement.
Design autonomous frameworks and leverage AI-powered tools to generate test suites, measure hallucination rates, and ensure ethical AI deployments.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
10+ years of experience in software quality assurance, platform validation, or systems testing.
5+ years of leadership experience managing technical quality assurance (QA), quality engineering (QE) or platform validation teams supporting enterprise-scale or client-facing systems.
Experience validating scalable architectures across Server, Client, WebDirect, APIs, and cloud or on-premises deployments.
Experience delivering releases on schedule while maintaining quality standards.
Experience with test planning, automation strategies, regression management, and release readiness processes.
Experience with performance, scalability, failover, backup, recovery, and resiliency testing.
Experience preparing and presenting technical quality risks and release status reports to cross-functional stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with the Claris FileMaker platform, including Server, Pro, WebDirect, and Data API.
Knowledge of modern cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, including hybrid deployment models.
Knowledge of security validation, compliance standards, and enterprise operational requirements such as SOC 2, GDPR, or HIPAA.
Experience transitioning teams from traditional QA to AI-driven workflows and validating complex, multi-step AI reasoning systems.
Ability to coach and develop team members while fostering an inclusive environment that encourages diverse perspectives and collaboration.
Expertise leading design of autonomous frameworks using self-healing scripts and AI-First Automation tools to drastically reduce manual maintenance and speed up delivery.
Experience directing adoption of AI-powered automation frameworks (e.g., self-healing test scripts, AI-generated test suites) to reduce manual maintenance and accelerate release velocity across the team.
Expertise with AI-powered tools to rapidly generate comprehensive test suites and edge cases directly from code and user stories.
Experience establishing organizational rigorous testing standards for bias detection, safety, and regulatory compliance to ensure ethical AI deployments across the enterprise.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $212,600 and $319,800, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
