Content provided by the employer

Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.

Hardware Engineering is a diverse, innovative, and collaborative group of electrical, mechanical, reliability, software and vehicle engineers. We design, build, and perfect the products which are the eyes and ears of Waymo's autonomous driving technology, and integrate those products into vehicle platforms. We're seeking curious and talented teammates to keep us moving in the right direction.

In this hybrid role, you will report to the Global Homologation Lead.

You will:

  • Develop and execute comprehensive component-level homologation strategies to secure and maintain certifications across global markets, with a primary focus on North America (FCC, ISED), Europe (CE, E-Mark), and key APAC regions, etc
  • Regulatory Compliance: Lead the certification process for Radio Frequency (RF), Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), and product safety standards (e.g., FCC Part 15, CE RED, etc)
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner directly with hardware design, systems engineering, supply chain, and legal teams early in the product development lifecycle to ensure "design-for-compliance" principles are integrated into all SDS components
  • Test Management: Select, audit, and manage relationships with external testing laboratories and certification bodies (NTRLs, TCBs, Notified Bodies). Oversee test plan development, physical testing phases, and troubleshooting of compliance failures
  • Supplier Management: Evaluate tier-1 and tier-2 suppliers' homologation documentation to ensure all off-the-shelf and custom-built components fitted to the AV platform possess valid and appropriate certifications
  • Documentation & Reporting: Compile, review, and maintain comprehensive Technical Construction Files (TCF), Declarations of Conformity (DoC), and all required regulatory filings

You have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Telecommunications, or a closely related technical field
  • 5+ years of dedicated experience in hardware homologation, regulatory compliance, or EMC/RF engineering within the automotive, aerospace, or consumer electronics industries
  • Deep, practical knowledge of global wireless and EMC certification frameworks, specifically FCC, ISED, and CE (RED, EMC, LVD directives)
  • Proven track record of simultaneously managing multiple complex certification projects across different global regions and product lines
  • Exceptional technical writing and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into actionable engineering specifications

We prefer:

  • Direct experience working on autonomous vehicles, electric vehicles (EVs), or advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), particularly with radars, LiDARs, and high-performance compute modules
  • Established relationships with global test houses, Notified Bodies, and regulatory agencies

Travel Requirement:

  • Domestic and international travel to support homologation meetings and testing (15%)
