Job Description
About the role:
At Takeda, we are guided by our purpose of Better Health for People, Brighter Future for the World and our commitment to patients, our people, and the planet. As we continue to evolve our portfolio through acquisitions, partnerships, and divestitures, the ability to transition and integrate assets seamlessly is essential to delivering on our commitments to patients, regulators, and partners.
We are seeking an Associate Director to join the R&D Asset Transition and Integration Office, the function responsible for executing R&D asset transitions across integrations, in-licensing, asset wind-downs, divestments, and externalizations. In this role, you will lead and support assigned transitions end to end, acting as the R&D execution and operational point of contact to external partners and counterparties, and driving delivery across the R&D functions to a clean, compliant close.
You will operate at the intersection of science, operations, and strategy, bringing structure to complex transitions while maintaining high standards of quality and data integrity.
How you will contribute:
• Support or selectively lead assigned R&D asset transitions, especially wind-downs or terminations and select post-trial commitments, defining scope, sequencing, critical path, resourcing, and target end state
• Translate contractual obligations, license agreements, transition plans, and post-term commitments into clear operational work plans with named owners and dates
• Act as the operational point of contact with external partners, licensors, buyers, and vendors, including on scheduling requirements, operational decisions, and contractual clarifications
• Coordinate delivery across Regulatory Affairs, Pharmacovigilance, Clinical Operations, Clinical Data Management, Biostatistics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nonclinical, Quality, Procurement, Legal, Finance, and Data and Technology
• Work with R&D functions to manage study closeout, sample and material disposition, regulatory withdrawal, trial transparency obligations, and financial reconciliation
• Establish and run the governance cadence for assigned transitions; escalate with clear recommendations and conduct briefings for senior leadership and external representatives
• Execute critical transition activities, such as data and records transfer, regulatory filing transitions, safety and pharmacovigilance handovers, system migrations and decommissioning, and contract and vendor transitions
• Anticipate operational and regulatory challenges across the transition lifecycle and recommend improvements to process and approach
• Serve as a best practice resource for the function, contributing to RATIO frameworks, playbooks, and tools, and applying lessons learned so each transition improves on the last
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
• Minimum bachelor’s degree in a scientific or related field; an advanced degree is welcome
• 8 or more years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, especially in R&D strategy and operations or program management
• Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of multi-functional programs
• Demonstrated delivery in global matrixed environments
• Working knowledge of R&D processes, such as clinical development, regulatory, safety, and quality systems, and how they interact during a transition
• Experience working with external counterparties such as partners, licensors, contract research organizations, or vendors
• Understanding of data and records management, such as regulatory data transfer, system transitions, and archival strategies
• Familiarity with global R&D systems and infrastructure, and how they interact during transitions
• Fluent English at a level suitable for global governance forums
• Preferred: experience in R&D alliance management, business development, for example mergers and acquisitions integration, divestment, in-licensing, R&D technology or sponsor transfer, asset termination, or life sciences strategy or management consulting
• Preferred: familiarity with regulatory filing transfers and with clinical, safety, and regulatory systems and their migration
• Preferred: contract literacy
• Preferred: budget forecasting, tracking, and closeout for program spend
• Preferred: experience working across cultures and time zones
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to help create a collaborative environment
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and keep progress moving in highly complex environments.
