Compliance Advisory Director

Job Title: Compliance Advisory Director

Location: London or Nottingham

Working Pattern: 3 days in-office (Tuesday-Thursday) and 2 days remote.

Our Mission

We’re on a mission to be a force for good in lending. Throughout our almost 30-year history, we’ve consistently been recognised as a great place to work; in 2026, Capital One was officially ranked 9th in the UK’s Best Workplaces™ list. Hear from our team about what it’s like working at Capital One UK.

About the Role

The Compliance Advisory Director provides senior-level compliance advice and counsel across the UK business, ensuring regulatory obligations are understood, embedded and effectively managed.

The role combines broad UK financial services compliance expertise with privacy experience, acting as a trusted adviser to senior executives and business leaders on complex regulatory, conduct, customer and data-related matters.

The role will help the UK business anticipate regulatory change, manage compliance risk and demonstrate good customer and regulatory outcomes, while providing effective oversight and challenge across the first and second lines of defence.

What you’ll do

  • Provide authoritative, pragmatic compliance advice on complex and emerging regulatory matters, acting as a senior escalation point for significant compliance issues and regulatory risk.
  • Provide effective second-line challenge to business decisions, products, processes and customer propositions.
  • Develop strong relationships with senior stakeholders, balancing commercial objectives with regulatory expectations.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the UK financial services regulatory framework and anticipate regulatory changes—including emerging technology and AI regulation— translating these into practical business requirements.
  • Identify emerging regulatory risks and translate them into practical business requirements.
  • Provide input into compliance monitoring, assurance and thematic reviews.
  • Act as a senior compliance adviser on data protection matters, working closely with the DPO, Legal, Information Security and business teams.

What we’re looking for

  • Significant senior compliance advisory experience within UK financial services, backed by strong knowledge of the FCA regulatory framework.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Consumer Duty, conduct risk, and translating complex regulatory requirements into practical business solutions.
  • Deep expertise in UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, with practical experience conducting or overseeing data protection risk assessments.
  • Proven ability to act as a constructive challenger and trusted adviser to senior stakeholders and executive governance committees.
  • A strategic, data-aware mindset with a strong focus on driving excellent customer outcomes and mitigating operational risks.
  • Ability to distinguish between technical compliance and the regulator’s likely expectations, applying proportionate and risk-based judgement.

Where and how you'll work

This is a permanent position based in either our Nottingham or London office. We embrace a hybrid approach to work.

You'll spend three days a week in the office (Tuesday-Thursday), with Monday and Friday being dedicated work-from-home days.

What you should know about how we recruit

We pride ourselves on hiring the best people, not the same people. Building diverse and inclusive teams is the right thing to do and the smart thing to do. We want to work with top talent: whoever you are, whatever you look like, wherever you come from. We know it’s about what you do, not just what you say. That’s why we make our recruitment process fair and accessible.

We value diversity, inclusion and belonging at our core. We empower our associates to do great work by creating an inclusive culture—one that values diverse perspectives, fosters collaboration and encourages innovative ideas—and a place where associates of all backgrounds can thrive by bringing their most authentic selves to work. We call this our Culture of Belonging, and it rests at the heart of our business.

Our associate-led Business Resource Groups were created to help support our diverse population and include over 10 groups across our offices. Because each Business Resource Group is as unique as the population it serves, they offer a range of activities, networking opportunities, special events and learning programmes to associates.
