Summary

At Apple, we work every single day to craft products that enrich people’s lives. Do you love working on challenges that no one has solved yet? As a member of our dynamic group, you will have the unique and rewarding opportunity to shape upcoming products that will delight and inspire millions of Apple’s customers every day!

Our RF Systems Engineering team is looking for a passionate, self-motivated individual to work on overall system performance of multi-radio coexistence for various wireless technologies (e.g., Cellular, Wi-Fi, BT, GPS, UWB, NFC).

Description

You will be responsible for assessing platform-level multi-radio coexistence performance, including:

- Working with cross-functional partners to assess the multi-radio coexistence performance impact to the end user.
- Working with wireless software partners to design the software mitigation scheme, assess the trade-offs and implementation path.
- Bring-up device-under-test, setups and test procedures for multi-radio coexistence performance studies.
- Analyze wireless logs to understand field usage patterns and incorporate these learnings to perform controlled bench performance studies for multi-radio coexistence.
- Proposing HW/SW design and process changes for multi-radio coexistence issues considering design constraints and align with cross-functional partners on trade-offs and implementation path.
- Execution of validation & characterization test plans to meet multi-radio coexistence performance targets.
- Tracking validation status, analyze results and communicate insight from data.
- Collaborating with cross-functional partners for circuit-level, system-level simulations to understand risk areas and root cause issues.

Responsibilities

Assess multi-radio coexistence user impact across Apple platforms by conducting performance characterization at the RF/wireless system level.
Work with cross-functional partners to define product-level coexistence performance specifications and align on use-cases, test methodology & key performance metrics.
Work with analytics team to gather usage statistics to understand prevalence of coexistence issues in the field.
Collaborate cross-functionally with field team to design experiments & analyze field logs to demonstrate end-user performance impact.
Design bench experiments, collect performance data & analyze wireless logs across various RF parameters to derive HW specification for various multi-radio coexistence use-cases.
Define and execute validation and characterization test plans, track results, and communicate data-driven insights to cross-functional partners and leadership.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring up devices under test and develop test procedures, mock-ups, and experimental setups for coexistence validation.
Monitor HW performance throughout the HW builds and scope software mitigation solutions to remedy multi-radio coexistence issues observed in the HW.
Collaborate with cross-functional software partners to determine appropriate software mitigation policies across various Apple platforms based on HW data collected in factory.
Lead cross-functional efforts to define software mitigation strategies for future technology platforms.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with 10+ years relevant work experience.
Experience with at least one radio of Cellular, GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Thread, NFC, and UWB.
Knowledge of RF component characteristics and experience using lab equipment including spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, signal generator, oscilloscopes, call box.
Knowledge of wireless architectures including front-end, antenna sharing, link budget line-up.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in electrical engineering with 10+ years relevant work experience.
Experience debugging and performing RF measurements at the conducted & radiated level.
Experience on co-existence performance benchmark, impact analysis, software mitigation scheme, MAC/PHY and throughput measurement and debug.
Experience working with chipset teams to define RF/wireless system-level requirements and influence chipset architecture or design decisions.
Familiarity with wireless protocol stack at the RF, PHY & MAC layers.
Excellent communication written and verbal skills.
