Job Description

The Associate Director, Digital Asset Management (DAM) leads the strategy, product vision, governance, operations, and continuous evolution of Gilead's enterprise, global DAM capability for commercial content. The role ensures that approved digital content and assets are governed, discoverable, reusable, compliant, and scalable across global teams and affiliates.

As the product owner for DAM, the Associate Director defines the roadmap and operating model while partnering with Commercial Operations, Legal, Regulatory, IT, Data and AI, Procurement, and affiliate stakeholders. The role advances DAM from a content repository into a strategic content foundation that enables global-to-local reuse, AI-assisted content creation, automated MLR prechecks and autonomous workflows.

The Associate Director is a people leader responsible for building, coaching, and managing a high-performing team of content librarians who oversee metadata quality, taxonomy, asset stewardship, platform support, and service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and Product Leadership

  • Define and execute the enterprise commercial DAM vision, strategy, roadmap, objectives, and measurable business outcomes.
  • Serve as the business product owner for DAM, translating business needs into prioritized capabilities, investments, requirements, and backlog decisions.
  • Align DAM with the broader content supply chain, Veeva Vault PromoMats, rights management, localization, and AI roadmaps.
  • Evaluate emerging DAM capabilities, content intelligence frameworks, semantic search, generative AI, and automation capabilities for responsible enterprise adoption.

AI and Content Automation Enablement

  • Establish DAM as a trusted source of approved, reusable, and machine-readable content for enterprise AI applications.
  • Define the metadata, taxonomy, content relationships, claims associations, rights information, and governance needed for AI-assisted content creation, retrieval, reuse, and localization.
  • Partner with Legal, Regulatory, AI, and technology teams to implement appropriate controls, traceability, and guardrails for generated or adapted content.
  • Enable AI-assisted MLR prechecks for approved claims and references, content consistency, expiration, required statements, rights restrictions, and market-specific requirements.
  • Measure the impact of automation on content cycle time, first-time-right quality, reuse, reviewer effort, and compliance.

DAM Operations and Governance

  • Establish global standards for metadata, taxonomy, naming conventions, asset relationships, lifecycle management, retention, and content stewardship.
  • Ensure assets are accurately classified, searchable, reusable, current, and compliant with applicable promotional content, legal, records, and digital rights requirements.
  • Develop scalable service delivery processes for asset ingestion, metadata application, quality control, publishing, localization, reuse, expiration, and archival.
  • Lead governance forums with agency partners and marketing stakeholders that oversee priorities, standards, risks, exceptions, dependencies, and cross-functional decisions.

Platform and Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner with IT and platform teams to deliver DAM enhancements, integrations, migrations, releases, and roadmap priorities.
  • Define system-of-record responsibilities and reliable data flows across DAM, Veeva Vault PromoMats, authoring, review, localization, rights, CRM, web, media, and channel platforms.
  • Lead business requirements, backlog prioritization, user acceptance testing, release readiness, adoption, and post-launch optimization.
  • Build trusted partnerships across global and affiliate teams, agencies, procurement, and external service providers.

People, Service, and Vendor Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of DAM professionals and content librarians, establishing clear goals, accountabilities, development plans, and performance expectations.
  • Oversee content librarianship, metadata stewardship, asset quality, taxonomy maintenance, user support, and operational service delivery.
  • Plan team capacity and capabilities to support business growth, affiliate onboarding, increasing content volumes, and new technology-enabled use cases.
  • Manage strategic suppliers and service providers, including service levels, quality, cost, capacity, risk, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead organizational change management, communications, training, and champion networks to increase DAM adoption and consistent ways of working.

Key Leadership Competencies

  • Enterprise and portfolio mindset with the ability to balance global scale, affiliate needs, compliance, user experience, and long-term value.
  • Data-driven decision-making and a strong focus on measurable outcomes.
  • Ability to mobilize cross-functional teams, navigate ambiguity, and resolve complex dependencies.
  • Commitment to developing people, building inclusive teams, and creating a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Measures of Success

  • Executing the DAM strategic vision and roadmap through successful deployment and adoption of new capabilities that advance content operations, AI enablement, and global-to-local content strategies.
  • Enabling AI readiness and automation by establishing DAM as the foundational content layer for AI-powered content creation, personalization, content reuse, and automated MLR prechecks.
  • Driving DAM adoption and business value across global brands, affiliates, agencies, and content teams by establishing DAM as the trusted enterprise platform for content storage, discovery, reuse, and activation.
  • Delivering measurable cost savings through increased content reuse, reduced duplication, and decreased reliance on agencies and external partners for adapted and derivative content creation.
  • Strengthening compliance and governance by ensuring traceability of assets, claims, rights, licensing, and content lifecycles, reducing risk and supporting compliant content creation and reuse.
